Over $3,000 in contingency cash up for grabs to fast timer, lap leaders, heat winners.
NSCHoF awards jackets to winners
Port Royal –Not only will the April 26 Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal speedway boast a feature purse in excess of $34,000, but it has plenty of contingency cash to go around as well.
Sanctioned by the All Stars Circuit of Champions Sprints, the 29-lap main event will pay $10,000 to win and $500 just to start.
However each lap of the 29-lapper, the distance in honor of the famed Weikert’s Livestock No. 29 sprint car, will pay $100 to lead courtesy of the Weikert’s family of lap sponsors.
Fast time of the night will receive a minimum of $300 in honor of late Port Royal and Weikert fan Raymond Jacobs. Jacobs’ son will present the award.
And each heat will pay $50 to win as sponsored by Packers Concessions.
The memorial winner himself, the winning car owner and mechanic will receive certificates for beautifully embroidered National Sprint Car Hall of Fame jackets courtesy of the NSCHoF of which Bob Weikert was an inductee.
Run in honor of late hall of fame sprint car owner, the Weikert Memorial is one of the shining lights of both the Port Royal and All Stars seasons.
The 2014 race was taken by Doug Esh of Lancaster who totaled up some $12,200 for his night of effort.
Esh’s run to the win was far from easy, needing first to pass a pair of previous race leaders, Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, Calif., and Tim Shaffer of Aliquippa, before he got control for the victory.
Driving a replica Weikert No. 29 sprint car, Logan Schuchart set a new one-lap track record in last year’s event.
The Weikert Memorial Port Royal All Star invasion promises to be and in fact will be one of the richest events the circuit offers throughout its 2014 campaign.
The All Stars return to Port Royal Speedway again in early September for the two-day, 47th annual Tuscarora 50 races as part of the Juniata County Fair.
General admission gates for the 2014 All Star Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway will open at 4 pm on April 26 with racing slated for 7 pm.
Adult general admission will be just $22 with youth ages 12 – 18 priced at JUST $5.
