“BILL HENDREN MEMORIAL” TO FEATURE $2000 TO-WIN SWEENEY RUSH LM TOUR EVENT AT ROARING KNOB PLUS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN CONTINGENCIES
By Mike Leone

September 23, 2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Markleysburg, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series continues its busy fall stretch of big racing events this weekend as Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex will host the “Bill Hendren Memorial” as part of the scenic facility’s annual “Big Kahuna” event. Bobby Lake Motorsports “Shock the Clock” qualifying and heat races will take place on Friday night (September 27) with the K&N dash, last chance B main(s), the 30-lap feature and non-qualifier on Saturday night (September 28).

The late engine builder from Rutherfordton, North Carolina was a big supporter of the Crate Late Model engine concept from its inception. Bill passed away on March 19, 2011, but his legacy is being carried on by his son Steve, who continues to operate Hendren Racing Engines and also campaigns a Crate Late Model in the Southeast. Steve was the winner of the inaugural memorial event held back in 2011.

Not only will race #20 be another $2,000 to-win event, but thousands of dollars ($6,500 to date) of contingencies have been added to the pot and will continue to be added throughout the week (see list below). The Hendren Family will also present laser etched marble trophies/plaques to the top three finishers.

“We are truly honored to be able to present a Bill Hendren Memorial in conjunction with one of our RUSH Touring Series events,” expressed RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “The Bill Hendren Memorials have been a huge hit in the past for competitors in the South and we know our racers will be thrilled when they see everything that will be up for grabs in both cash and contingencies. While we didn’t personally know Bill Hendren, it’s obvious that he was a great man and built the strong foundation that has established Hendren Racing Engines as one the most respected engine builders in the industry.”

The “Big Kahuna” includes a pair of Super Late Model events and the weekend is one of the biggest of the season at Roaring Knob. The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series is thrilled to be included in each of the three biggest Super Late Model shows of the season at The Knob (Lucas Oil, NDRL “Kings of Dirt”, and 3 State Flyers “Big Kahuna”).

“Steve felt September would be the best time to hold this event,” explained RUSH Co-Director Mike Leone. “We felt Roaring Knob was a perfect location to draw racers from not only the Northeast but also from the South and East Coast. It was important to Steve that his customers from all areas be able to easily participate in his father’s memorial. It’s also good timing as it falls one month after our successful $30,000 Manufacturers Night at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway.”

The K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash will be run awarding $100 K&N certificate for the win, $50 certificate for second with $25 cash to all other starters. Saturday’s K&N Dash will determine the beginning of the feature lineup. It took until the 16th event to get a repeat winner when Lake won at Roaring Knob and then K&N point leader Ryan Montgomery became the second repeat winner in race #18.

Other programs taking place will be the Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down Hard Charger” as the driver that passes the most cars in the feature will receive $100 Precise certificate. RUSH Officials will choose The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night” as this driver will receive three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any The Brake Man purchase.

The “Wheelman” Bonus Event Challenge Series will be held for drivers failing to qualify for the feature. There has yet to be a repeat winner in the nine races run in 2013. Scott Fitch is the current point leader.
