BOSS Doubleheader on Tap Next

The first of two BOSS doubleheader weekends in 2013 is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, May 24th and 25th with appearances at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio and Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania. These events will make up rounds #2 and 3 of the 14 round BOSS heavyweight title fight. Coming off a great season opener with a strong 40 car field, BOSS officials expect excellent car counts both nights with plenty of track locals looking to knock off sprint car racing’s true outlaws, the stalwarts of the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series.

Friday nights event at Wayne County Speedway will see BOSS sharing the card with the World of Outlaw late model series. This will give BOSS drivers the opportunity to present a whole new form of racing to many stock car fans who have never seen a traditional sprint car event in person. To compensate teams for the higher pit passes associated with a WoO event, the BOSS purse has been increased by $500 and each A-Main starter will earn $25 more than the standard BOSS purse. The additional money now makes the event $1425 to win and $275 to start the 25 lap A-Main. Several BOSS bonus awards will also be up for grabs including the $50 Horne Performance Hard Charger Award, the $50 Ernie’s Radiator Repair Steel Block Award to the highest finishing steel motor, the $50 Buckeye Machine and Fabrication Hard Luck Award, and tire bonuses supplied by Hoosier and American Racer. Heat race money for the Wayne County event will be supplied by Underground Professionals Inc, K-D’s Allegro Pizzeria, and Country Side Grocery and Drive Thru.

Previous winners at Wayne County, Dustin Smith (2 wins) and Mike Burkin (winner of this event last year) are both expected to be on hand leading into battle a strong field of BOSS regulars including Kirk Jeffries, Tony Beaber, Brandon Spithaler, Chuck Wilson, Mike Miller, Dallas Hewitt, Skip Dougherty, Aaron Middaugh, Mark Cassella, Chad Wilson, Derek Hastings, Adam Miller, Michael Fischesser, Steve Irwin, Matt Phillips, and Adam Cruea. Also entering the field will be legendary Johnny Beaber who has come out of retirement to run with BOSS and will be making his first appearance as a driver at Wayne County Speedway in nearly 20 years! In this event last year, Mike Burkin came from 15th starting position to win the main event and series officials are hopeful that another awesome display of passing will be seen again this year.

Pit gates will open at 4 pm on Friday and pit passes are $40. Raceceivers and transponders will be required. Wayne County does have transponders available for rent for $10. Mufflers are required and BOSS teams will pill draw for heat race starting positions. Drivers will be paid by BOSS in check after the main event.

Saturday night, the series will move on to Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania where last season, BOSS regular Brandon Spithaler of nearby Evans City used his knowledge of his hometown track to secure his first career series feature victory. Mercer fans can expect the same entry list of non wing warriors on Saturday night competing for the standard BOSS purse of $1400 to win and $250 to start. Bonus awards will once again be available and heat races will be sponsored by Ron’s Lawn Service of Sharpsville, Kistler Engines, and Underground Professionals Inc. Pit gates will open at 4 pm. Raceceivers and mufflers are required and transponders will be provided free of charge by Precise Racing who will also have tires available at the track. Teams will once again pill draw for heat race lineups and drivers will be paid by BOSS in check after the main event.

For teams and fans alike who are planning to attend both events, the Econo Lodge in Kent, Ohio has offered a $49 per night hotel deal. The hotel is approximately halfway between the 2 events and trailer parking with security is provided directly across the street from the hotel. The Kent, Ohio police department will supply security and did an excellent job for the teams last year. To reserve your room, please call 330-678-9927 and be sure to ask for the “BOSS” racers rate of $49.
