FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Brighton, ON)….Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Series Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone continue the Series’ strong forward momentum as they are proud to announce that Brighton Speedway has signed on to become a weekly-sanctioned speedway on Saturday nights in 2015. Brighton, which is located 100 miles (163 km) northeast of Toronto, becomes the Series’ northernmost speedway and greatly increases the Series’ expansion.
The Sweeney RUSH Late Model Series experienced major growth in 2014 adding Canada’s Humberstone Speedway in the North along with Virginia’s Winchester Speedway and Maryland’s Potomac Speedway in the Mid-Atlantic. Already for the upcoming season, the addition of Ohio’s Wayne County Speedway has grown the Series to its furthest westward location.
The Crate Late Models debuted at Brighton in 2010 and now for their sixth season in existence will come under the RUSH banner for the first time. RUSH member racers will be able to participate at Brighton in 2015 and be eligible for all of the programs including the Sweeney Weekly Series Championship, the Pace Performance Summer Chase, along with the Bilstein Bandits and the “Futures Cup” for those eligible racers. While membership is not mandatory to compete in any RUSH-sanctioned event, membership will again include a $100,000 excess participant accident policy which is over and above drivers’ health insurance and speedways’ participant accident policy.
“We’ve had talks over the years with Brighton’s promoter Mark Rinaldi,” explained Emig. “Rinaldi has had a successful Crate Late Model program, but is very cognizant of the importance of getting Crate Late Model racing in the Northeast on the same rules package for the betterment of everyone. Mark is also a big proponent of our Bilstein Bandits sealed spec shock program and that was an important factor in his decision to align his speedway with RUSH. The addition of Brighton continues the growth of our Series, especially in Ontario.”
“We are excited to be joining the RUSH Late Model Weekly Racing Series,” stated Brighton’s Mark Rinaldi. “The programs and benefits they offer our drivers are second to none in the Crate Late Model world! I am also really impressed with the new sealed Bilstein Shock program as well as other efforts RUSH makes towards keeping the cost of racing down for our drivers.”
Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario is returning for the upcoming season as a Sweeney RUSH weekly-sanctioned speedway on Sunday evenings. It was also announced recently that Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario will host a first ever Crate Late Model event on Monday, May 18 as a $2,000 to-win Sweeney Tour event. Humberstone’s $2,000 to-win Sweeney Tour event is scheduled for Sunday, July 19.
“It’s great to see both RUSH and Crate Late Model racing continue to expand in Canada,” expressed Leone. “Now with the rules the same and the ability to compete for championship points at additional facilities, hopefully it’ll give more incentive for drivers to cross between Brighton and Humberstone in addition to supporting the Sweeney Tour events throughout the Northeast. Brighton regular Greg Belyea has made it down to some of our events in the past. Also, Brighton champion Charlie Sandercock set fast time and finished fifth in the “Fall Classic” at last October at McKean. Sandercock is expected to compete in several of the northern Sweeney Tour events.”
Brighton Speedway is a 1/3-mile dirt oval located at 775 County Road 64, Brighton, Ontario K0K 1H0. Brighton races weekly on Saturday nights, May through September.
