Brock Zearfoss Finishes Third During Mitch Smith Memorial
Ends Week Tied for Tenth in Speedweek Standings
By Fully Injected Motorsports:
Jonestown, PA (July 6th, 2015) – Brock Zearfoss entered all but one Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek presented by Jake’s Wayback Burgers event last week; traveling to all areas of central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland with the notorious ‘Pennsylvania Posse.’ Despite a few ‘tough’ finishes and patches of poor luck, the ‘Jonestown Jet’ managed to secure a tenth place finish in the final ‘Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek’ standings; tied with Lance Dewease with 482 points. Zearfoss highlighted his week with a podium performance during the $10,000-to-win ‘Mitch Smith Memorial’ at the Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, July 3rd; his highest finish at ‘The Grove’ in 2015 and the highest of the season overall.
“It wasn’t a bad week for us” said Brock Zearfoss, “We definitely struggled some nights but we made up for that during others. Our week ended with engine troubles at Selinsgrove; not how we wanted it to end but it is what it is. The highlight of our week was definitely the ‘Mitch Smith Memorial.’ We had a good car all night. I made a few mistakes during the feature but to come out on the podium is an amazing feeling. This team works hard and they deserved a great finish like that. We’ll see what we can do this weekend.”
Brock Zearfoss, pilot of the Brock Zearfoss Racing, Moose’s LZ Bar and Grill, Central Builders Supply, Leach’s Automotive Service, Meckley’s Limestone, no. 3Z ‘410’ sprint car, kicked off his Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek campaign with an 18th place finish at the Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on Friday, June 26th. With the Lincoln Speedway event on Saturday, June 27th getting postponed until Monday, June 29th due to weather, Zearfoss would be forced to wait an extra day before returning to competition on Sunday night, June 28th at the Path Valley Speedway Park near Spring Run, Pennsylvania. The Jonestown, Pennsylvania native would record a 16th place performance at the quarter-mile bullring on Sunday night. Zearfoss would miss the June 29th program at Lincoln Speedway and the June 30th program at Grandview Speedway (eventually canceled) due to work commitments.
Brock Zearfoss Racing would rejoin the Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek trail on Wednesday evening, July 1st at the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland; eventually finishing a solid 11th in the main event running order. Unfortunately, the familiar ‘3Z’ team would be unable to repeat that performance on Thursday evening, July 2nd; failing to make the main event lineup at Lincoln Speedway during the $7,000-to-win ‘Kevin Gobrecht Memorial.’
Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek would resume on Friday night, July 3rd back at the Williams Grove Speedway for the annual ‘Mitch Smith Memorial’ worth $10,000. Zearfoss would finish on the podium during the ‘crown jewel’ program; earning his season-high finish after starting on the front row. The ‘Jonestown Jet’ would finish third officially on July 3rd; following ‘The Edge’ Brian Montieth and race winner Doug Esh to the checkers.
Brock Zearfoss ended his 2015 speedweek campaign with visits to the Port Royal Speedway and Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday and Sunday, July 4th & 5th. Zearfoss would finish 13th at ‘The Speed Palace’ in Port Royal, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 4th, but would be doomed with engine trouble at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 5th. Zearfoss would not be able to start the main event.
“We wanted to end our week better than how we did” said Zearfoss, “We knew something was going on with the motor. We investigated a little further and found a broken lifter. That ended our speedweek finale in a hurry.”
The ‘3Z’ team will return to action this Friday and Saturday, July 10th & 11th with a pair of routine visits in central Pennsylvania. Zearfoss will make a stop at the Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, July 10th, followed by a trip back to the Port Royal ‘Speed Palace’ on Saturday, July 11th.
“We’ll try to find our rhythm again this weekend” explained Zearfoss, “We have a ton of potential, we just need to capitalize on that. We’ll use our notes from speedweek and try to repeat our ‘Mitch Smith Memorial’ performance at both events this weekend.”
