JONESTOWN, Pa. (February 12, 2019) – Brock Zearfoss and Premier Motorsports were busy during their 2019 season debut, not only joining the All Star Circuit of Champions for five events at two tracks, but also joining the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for what turned out to be a pair of events at Volusia Speedway Park.
For Zearfoss, the trip south not only displayed success, but it also provided knowledge, giving the team valuable insight as they prepare for a full season on the road with the All Star Circuit of Champions.
“We experienced just about everything during our trip, but all in all, we had fun and we had speed. That’s what’s most important,” Brock Zearfoss said, driver of the Premier Motorsports/Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill/Heavy Equipment/Loaders & Parts Inc./BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Meckley’s Limestone Products/Berkebile Oil Company/River City Wood Products/No. 70 sprint car. “I can’t thank everyone enough who makes this possible. We were fortunate enough to have a few of our partners with us in Florida including Alan and Eric from Heavy Equipment. It was a great experience and I’m already looking forward to the rest of the season.”
The ‘Jonestown Jet’ kicked off his winter vacation in sunny Florida with a trio of starts at Bubba Raceway Park on Thursday, January 31 through Saturday, February 2. Three starts resulted in a pair of top-ten finishes for the former Port Royal Speedway sprint car track champion, finishing eighth and sixth during feature competition on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Although not inside the top-ten, Zearfoss’ result on Friday was one spot shy, actually crossing under the final checkers 11th in the running order.
Certainly the highlight of his opening weekend, Zearfoss’ sixth place performance on Saturday commenced from the inside of row five, kicking off the evening with the third fastest time during qualifying time trials.
Although his visit to Volusia Speedway Park from Wednesday, February 6, until Sunday, February 10, resulted in limited success, the time behind the wheel proved valuable as Zearfoss still managed to qualify for three straight main events, two of which against a loaded World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series field.
The five-race turned four-race stretch at Volusia Speedway Park included two consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions programs on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by two consecutive World of Outlaws events on Friday and Saturday. Despite starting the long weekend with a failed attempt at qualifying for All Star feature action on Wednesday, Zearfoss and Premier Motorsports rebounded in a hurry, ultimately finishing 14th during the All Star Florida finale on Thursday evening.
The Jonestown, Pa., native closed out his trip with back-to-back 23rd place finishes against a stout field of World of Outlaws competitors.
Sunday’s World of Outlaws program was eventually cancelled due to Mother Nature; it was not rescheduled.
Up next on the schedule, Brock Zearfoss and Premier Motorsports will visit the ‘Fabulous’ Lincoln Speedway in Abbottsown, Pa., for the annual Icebreaker 30 – Pennsylvania’s sprint car season opener – on Saturday, February 23. The Pennsylvania Posse lidlifter will award a $4,000 top prize.
