FOREST, Ohio (October 18, 2021) – With Mother Nature interfering with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) season finale scheduled for Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park, the Ohio-based, non-wing touring group was forced to officially conclude their 2021 campaign with a cancellation, and although Series action ended on a sour note, it led to celebration for some, as Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports ultimately clinched their second BOSS championship in three years.
Padded by a victory at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on July 24, Westfall entered the final weekend of BOSS action with a 79-point lead, chased by Willow Branch, Indiana’s Isaac Chapple. The deficit would have been tough to overcome, but wet weather negated all chances. Even if Mother Nature would have spared the event at Waynesfield, Westfall’s recent momentum boost would have given the Buckeye an upper hand; the 2019 BOSS champ scored a podium finish in I-96 Speedway’s Roll the Dice on October 9.
“It feels good to get another BOSS championship. We didn’t want the season to end like it did, but we’ll take it and celebrate,” Westfall said, driver of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/”Bumblebee Express” sprint car. “I can’t thank Ray Marshall and the entire team enough for their hard work this season. I think we were in a position to win more than one BOSS race this year, but our consistency paid off and that’s what’s most important. We still have some starts left on our plate, so we’ll do what we can to end things on a winning note.”
Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with a two-day stop at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Indiana, on Friday and Saturday, October 22-23. Dubbed the Fall Festival of Speed, the Gas City season finale will feature two, full shows for the non-wing sprint cars awarding a combined $4,000 winner’s share; $2,000 on Friday and $2,000 on Saturday.
Although Westfall is winless at Gas City in 2021, the Pleasant Hill, Ohio-native is certainly no stranger to the high paced quarter-mile, earning one victory in 2019, as well as another in 2020.
