Westfall crowned BOSS champion; Gas City doubleheader ahead

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

FOREST, Ohio (October 18, 2021) – With Mother Nature interfering with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) season finale scheduled for Saturday at Waynesfield Raceway Park, the Ohio-based, non-wing touring group was forced to officially conclude their 2021 campaign with a cancellation, and although Series action ended on a sour note, it led to celebration for some, as Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports ultimately clinched their second BOSS championship in three years.

Padded by a victory at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on July 24, Westfall entered the final weekend of BOSS action with a 79-point lead, chased by Willow Branch, Indiana’s Isaac Chapple. The deficit would have been tough to overcome, but wet weather negated all chances. Even if Mother Nature would have spared the event at Waynesfield, Westfall’s recent momentum boost would have given the Buckeye an upper hand; the 2019 BOSS champ scored a podium finish in I-96 Speedway’s Roll the Dice on October 9.

“It feels good to get another BOSS championship. We didn’t want the season to end like it did, but we’ll take it and celebrate,” Westfall said, driver of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/”Bumblebee Express” sprint car. “I can’t thank Ray Marshall and the entire team enough for their hard work this season. I think we were in a position to win more than one BOSS race this year, but our consistency paid off and that’s what’s most important. We still have some starts left on our plate, so we’ll do what we can to end things on a winning note.”

Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with a two-day stop at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Indiana, on Friday and Saturday, October 22-23. Dubbed the Fall Festival of Speed, the Gas City season finale will feature two, full shows for the non-wing sprint cars awarding a combined $4,000 winner’s share; $2,000 on Friday and $2,000 on Saturday.

Although Westfall is winless at Gas City in 2021, the Pleasant Hill, Ohio-native is certainly no stranger to the high paced quarter-mile, earning one victory in 2019, as well as another in 2020.

Abreu eyes Tulare’s Trophy Cup

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

ST. HELENA, Calif. (October 18, 2021) – Rico Abreu’s open wheel season is closing down rapidly, but the action is far from over.

Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Self Made Racing/XYZ Machining/Stadelhofer Construction/No. 24 sprint car, will continue his 2021 campaign with the Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup 27 presented by Rudeen Racing at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway on Thursday through Saturday, October 21-23. Certainly a highlight on the West Coast, the three-day blockbuster will feature three complete programs each awarding $4,000 to the main event winner. The weekend’s overall points champion will receive an additional $15,000 bonus.

No stranger to Tulare’s historic Trophy Cup, Abreu was the 2019 event champion, actually sweeping the entire three-day program to earn $26,000. Abreu’s history making Trophy Cup performance had never been accomplished before. He won main events from fifth, tenth, and 17th.

“We’re ready and excited…it’s the Trophy Cup,” Abreu said, a two-time feature winner in 2021, one of which occurring in Knoxville Raceway’s Hard Knox program during the annual Knoxville Nationals. “It’s been a pretty crazy season, but I can’t say enough about my guys. They work hard and I owe it all to them. The travel, the miles, the schedule…none of it is easy but they never complain. I think we have it in us to be in contention for another Trophy Cup win. That’s our goal.”

Despite most of his season’s successes taking shape throughout the Midwest, Abreu does have some recent high marks on the West Coast. During his most recent try, the St. Helena, California-native secured a pair of top-five appearances at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, one of which in the annual Cotton Classic featuring the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

In addition to the aforementioned Hard Knox win, Abreu found his second victory of the season during Eldora’s annual 4-Crown Nationals, earning the All Star Circuit of Champions portion triumph for $6,000.

Westfall runner-up in I-96’s Roll the Dice; BOSS finale at Waynesfield next

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

FOREST, Ohio (October 11, 2021) – Although the two-day blockbuster was ultimately cut to one, losing Friday’s opener to an unexpected visit from Mother Nature, Roll the Dice weekend at I-96 Speedway went on as planned welcoming the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) and Great Lakes Traditional Sprints (GLTS) for a full out brawl on Saturday, October 9. Westfall, pilot for Ray Marshall Motorsports and current BOSS Series point leader, participated in the highly-touted event and finished on the podium, just shy of his second BOSS victory of 2021.

Westfall, driver of the Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/”Bumblebee Express” No. 33M sprint car, finished second in the Roll the Dice finale, leading much of the main event before losing the top spot to eventual winner, Max Adams.

A threat the entire evening, Westfall kicked-off the program with the seventh-fastest time during qualifying time trials, next transferring through his respective heat race to line up second on the feature grid.

“It feels good to be on the podium again. I think we were good enough to win…we just came up a little short,” Westfall said, who will work to clinch a second BOSS title in three seasons. “ I can’t thank Ray Marshall and the entire team enough for their hard work and support this season. I know we are good enough to compete with the best on any given night and we owe all of that to Ray. We’ll try to end the BOSS season on a high note Saturday at Waynesfield.”

Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series season finale at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio, on Saturday, October 16. The Forest, Ohio-based racing operation will enter Waynesfield with a 79-point advantage over Isaac Chapple in the BOSS title chase.

Whittall 11th against Greatest Show On Dirt in Port Royal’s Nittany Showdown finale

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

VINCENTOWN, N.J. (October 11, 2021) – In perhaps his top performance of the season, Vincentown, New Jersey’s Justin Whittall put on a show Saturday night in Port Royal Speedway’s Nittany Showdown finale and nearly found himself inside the top-ten with the best sprint car drivers in the world, ultimately completing his 2021 campaign with an 11th-place score against the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series; it was Whittall’s first-ever feature start against the Greatest Show On Dirt.

Impressive, nonetheless, Whittall, driver of the JW Motorsports, JG Kronenberger Fine Jewelry, Mid-Atlantic Transport, Brotherton Brewing Company, Beechwood Landscape Architecture and Construction LLC, Pioneer Auto Body, Worldwide Bearings, FK Rod Ends, Stilo Helmets, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Enterprise, Ground Blind Boys, No. 67 sprint car, earned his 11th-place outcome from 20th on the grid, tying ten-time Series champion, Donny Schatz, for the evening’s hard charger award (Schatz declared hard charger with his overall finish being higher than Whittall’s).

Whittall was in prime position to potentially duplicate his Saturday outcome on Friday, but contact with the outside retaining wall during the evening’s Last Chance Showdown erased all potential. Despite the fact, Whittall made up for his hiccup and performed to the max the following evening.

“I’m really, really proud of everyone involved. It’s kinda sad to say our season is done, but to end our year on a note like that is pretty incredible. We know we have the equipment and the speed to contend with whoever is on the track…we just need to put together all of the pieces.” Whittall said, a former Williams Grove Speedway winner. “I can’t thank my partners enough for all of their dedication this season. It’s been an up and down year for us, but we had our shining moments and I’m sure we made them proud. Here’s to an awesome year…we’ll see everyone in 2022.”

Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports will dive head first into the off-season and immediately begin preparations for the coming season. An update pertaining to Whittall’s 2022 schedule will be posted when it becomes available.

“Thank you, everyone,” Whittall added. “To the fans, my family, our partners…I couldn’t do it without you, so thank you.”

Dietrich opens Nittany Showdown with top-ten; Lincoln finale ahead

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (October 11, 2021) – It was a hard-fought weekend in the Keystone State for Gettysburg’s Danny Dietrich, and although the 2021 Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek champion did not attain another victory against the Greatest Show On Dirt, Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing performed well and highlighted the two-day Nittany Showdown at Port Royal’s “Speed Palace” with a top-ten performance, climbing seven spots to do so in Friday’s weekend opener.

Dietrich, driver of Gary Kauffman’s Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, Graver’s Garage, Racer’s New & Used Parts, No. 48 sprint car, finished tenth in Friday’s $10,000-to-win spectacle, not deterred by his ninth row starting position.

In fact, although he missed the top-ten in Saturday’s finale, Dietrich still did his best to put on a passing clinic, first transfering through the evening’s Last Chance Showdown before climbing from 24th to finish 16th. Dietrich was forced to compete in the last chance race after missing a transfer spot in his respective heat race.

“It wasn’t exactly the weekend we were working for, but we’ll take these results and move forward. You’re not going to find fields as tough as this very often, so I wouldn’t say we are completely disappointed,” Dietrich said pertaining to the weekend. “Hats off to the team. It’s been a long season, but they never stopped working. Hats off to the fans, too. Pennsylvania has the best race fans in the world and if it wasn’t for them, none of this would be a reality. We’ll keep digging and work to end this season on top.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with the Lincoln Speedway season finale on Saturday, October 16. “Double D” has one Lincoln win to his credit this season, earning his trip to the front stretch victory lane platform on March 13.

Zearfoss highlights Port Royal homecoming with impressive 12 spot rally Friday

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (October 11, 2021) – The “Jonestown Jet” Brock Zearfoss was welcomed back to Port Royal Speedway with open arms over the weekend, joining his fellow World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series travelers for the two-day Nittany Showdown on Friday and Saturday, October 8-9. Awarding a total winner’s share equaling $25,000, the Nittany Showdown featured the World of Outlaws in Pennsylvania for the final time this season.

The two-day showcase resulted in a consistent effort for the Jonestown, Pennsylvania-native and former Port Royal Speedway track champion, eventually capping the two-day affair with an average finish of 12th, kicking off the weekend with an 11th-place score on Friday followed by a 13th-place score on Saturday. Impressive to say, Zearfoss was forced to earn his consistent results the hard way, first climbing 12 positions on Friday, then climbing another pair of spots on Saturday. Zearfoss’ Friday outcome was the product of the Last Chance Showdown, finishing third to qualify for the $10,000-to-win A-Main.

In all, Zearfoss’ results were sound enough to keep the World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year contender ninth in the overall driver standings.

“It felt good to be home, that’s for sure,” Zearfoss expressed, who owns 21 top-tens on the World of Outlaws campaign trail this season. “We’ve turned a lot of laps at Port Royal so we were pretty excited to have the opportunity to get back there and race. There’s nothing we would have loved more than to win in front of our home fans and partners, but I think our results speak for themselves. The guys worked hard all weekend. We get to spend a few extra days at home before we have to leave again so we’re going to suck that up, for sure.”

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will take a weekend off before resuming the 2021 season on Friday, October 22, with the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.

Schatz hard charges to podium finish in Nittany Showdown finale

Dates: Friday and Saturday, October 8th-9th
Event: Nittany Showdown
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pennsylvania)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 4th (5th)
Saturday: 3rd (12th)

2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Fourth | 9744 points (166 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 11, 2021) – Consistency is a word very much associated with Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, and that is exactly what the team accomplished in Port Royal Speedway’s Nittany Showdown. Schatz, a ten-time Series champion and three-time main event winner thus far in 2021, finished fourth and third, respectively, in the two-day Port Royal invasion, actually challenging for a victory to open the weekend before capping his visit with a hard charge on Saturday.

Although not victorious on Friday, Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing and the No. 15/Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, was in a winning position, pressuring TSR teammate, Kerry Madsen, persistently after a lap 15 restart. In fact, the Fargo, North Dakota-native took command from Madsen twice, but each time Madsen was able to turn the car back underneath Schatz. Schatz would eventually fade the fourth.

The following evening, Schatz put on an impressive display to earn the evening’s Hard Charger Award, ultimately climbing from 12th to finish third in the $15,000-to-win Nittany Showdown finale. Schatz secured his podium placement with just two laps remaining.

“Pretty solid finish,” said Schatz. “We made some improvements and learned a lot in the Feature. We changed engines after the Heat Race and that was a good call. This team keeps digging and we’re getting better.”

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will take a weekend off before resuming the 2021 season on Friday, October 22, with the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. Schatz will enter the one-day program fourth in the World of Outlaws driver standings, trailing defending champion and current point leader, Brad Sweet, by a certainly attainable 166 markers.

The Madman on top for TSR in Port Royal’s Nittany Showdown opener

Dates: Friday and Saturday, October 8th-9th
Event: Nittany Showdown
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pennsylvania)
Kerry Madsen A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 1st (2nd)
Saturday: 4th (6th)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 11, 2021) – Kerry Madsen’s return to the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 14 sprint car resulted in all but perfection, earning back-to-back top-five finishes in Port Royal Speedway’s two-day Nittany Showdown including a victory to open the weekend on Friday, October 8. Impressive, nonetheless, the victory was all but a casual walk in the park, as Madsen was forced to withstand pressure from some of the best in the business including ten-time Series champion and TSR teammate, Donny Schatz, as well as Central Pennsylvania living legend, Lance Dewease.

Madsen, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing and the No. 14/Rush Truck Centers/Advance Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Digital Ally/Sage Fruit/FloRacing/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Mobil 1/Carquest Auto Parts/J&J Auto Racing/No. 14 sprint car, led all 25 circuits of Friday’s $10,000-to-win main event, ultimately cashing in for his third World of Outlaws victory of the 2021 season.

As mentioned, the victory was far from easy for the St Marys, New South Wales, Australia-native. In fact, Madsen’s final margin of victory over Lance Dewease was 0.081 seconds; the smallest of the World of Outlaws season.

“I can’t say enough about this Tony Stewart Racing team,” Madsen said in victory lane. “I was a little bit rusty to start the night, but they kept tuning on the car and got me more and more comfortable. I was really good early in the Feature and kind of protected more so in the second half. What a fantastic car, though.”

Although unable to match his Friday night performance, Kerry Madsen closed out the 2021 Nittany Showdown at Port Royal’s “Speed Palace” with a fourth-place score on Saturday, ultimately bumping ahead two spots after winning his respective heat race.

A future schedule for Kerry Madsen and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing has yet to be determined. Any news and information pertaining to Madsen’s schedule will be released when it becomes available.
