SANDUSKY, Ohio (March 29, 2023) – The off-season was short and sweet for Sandusky’s Chris Andrews, and despite a chaotic last three months of preparation that witnessed Andrews, crew chief Daniel Smith, car chief Brandon Riehl, and tire specialist Andrew Barman thrash from almost nothing, the newly formed open wheel team is ready to compete, set to debut their Chris Andrews Racing, Ohio Truck Sales, Fleet Capital, No. 15C sprint car in Attica Raceway Park’s season opener scheduled for Friday, March 31.
Andrews, a former two-time Attica Raceway Park track champion who spent his recent open wheel stint with Jay Kiser Racing, will set his primary focus on northeast Ohio in 2023, spending most of his weekends at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio. In addition, Andrews will battle the likes of the All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on an occasional basis, not only at the aforementioned Ohio staples, but also at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track – Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
Perhaps the most demanding stretch of Andrews’ 2023 agenda will be the annual running of Ohio Sprint Speedweek featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions. Although select dates are tentative for Chris Andrews Racing, the 41st edition of Ohio Sprint Speedweek is slated for June 9-17 featuring eight events in nine days concluding with the Dean Knittel Memorial at Portsmouth Raceway Park.
Tentatively, Andrews’ Speedweek slate will include Attica Raceway Park on June 9, Fremont Speedway on June 10, Wayne County Speedway on June 11-12, Sharon Speedway on June 13, and Eldora Speedway on June 16; appearances at Atomic Speedway on June 15 and Portsmouth Raceway Park on June 17 will be determined at a later date.
“It’s been a crazy last couple of months, but I think we’re ready to go,” Chris Andrews said. “Hats off to Daniel, Brandon, and Andrew who got us to this point. We literally started this team from scratch in December. We didn’t even have a single tool box with a screwdriver in it at that point. It’s a challenge to put a new team together in this short amount of time. You can buy all the nicest parts in the world but you have to have the right people surrounding you. We believe we have put the best possible people in place to get the job done and we are very excited for 2023”
Other destinations on Andrews’ upcoming agenda include Mercer Raceway in Mercer, Pennsylvania, which is highlighted on three occasions for the Sandusky native.
“We have a pretty busy slate ahead, and we intend to compete in all of it,” Andrews added. “We’re going to keep our focus close to home while also making room for other big events like the Eldora Million, Kings Royal, and Ohio Sprint Speedweek. It should be an exciting year.”
