Cory Haas Takes Jack Gunn Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway!

York, PA -9/4/2012 -York, Pennsylvania native and Central Pennsylvania ‘410’ sprint car competitor, Cory Haas, saved his best performance for last on Friday night, August 31st, and captured the $5,000-to-win ‘Jack Gunn Memorial’ finale at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Haas, who was win-less at Williams Grove Speedway in 2012 up until this event, earned the 20 lap feature win over former World of Outlaws competitor, Daryn Pittman, and current Central PA sprint car series point leader, Greg Hodnett. The twenty lap main event that Haas was victorious in was actually the third of three twenty lap features on Friday evening. The annual ‘Jack Gunn Memorial’ is notorious for it’s ‘Triple 20’s’ format.

Cory Haas, who is a former ‘358’ sprint car track champion at Williams Grove Speedway, finished higher as the evening progressed on Friday; bettering his performance by at least two positions during each of the three main events. The Mike Barshinger owned 11C team kicked-off the evening with a seventh place finish during the first twenty lap main event. Greg Hodnett would win the first ‘Jack Gunn Memorial’ feature; with Danny Dietrich and Don Kreitz Jr. rounding out the podium finishers. Haas would then return to the world famous Williams Grove Speedway surface and record a podium finish during the second ‘Jack Gunn Memorial’ twenty lap main event; finishing third in the running order just behind Doug Esh and winner, Brent Marks. 

The ’11C’ program now has four (4) wins over the course of the 2012 season, with three of those wins coming at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania. Haas still finds himself inside the top ten of the current Central PA sprint car point standings with just the homestretch of the season remaining. The ‘Jack Gunn Memorial’ champion will take the upcoming weekend off from competition to help prepare for the remainder of the 2012 season.
