GETTYSBURG, Pa. (July 5, 2016) – For the first time in his career, Danny Dietrich is a Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek champion, securing his fate with a victory during the speedweek finale at Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday night, July 3. Dietrich earned a total of two victories during the ten day campaign, circling through much of Central Pennsylvania, as well as northern Maryland. In addition to his Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek victory at Selinsgrove Speedway, the Gettysburg native claimed the Mitch Smith Memorial title at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, July 1, adding to his impressive seven-for-seven top-ten streak during speedweek, finishing no worse than sixth. The Mitch Smith Memorial win was worth $10,000.
“We are all pretty pumped up right now. Just an awesome feeling for everyone involved,” Dietrich explained. “Coming into PA Speedweek, we spent nearly a week in Ohio racing during Ohio Sprint Speedweek. We didn’t have the results we were looking for in Ohio, but we learned a lot. We came home and applied that to our program and it worked out great. Hopefully this is a turning point in our season. We have a lot on the schedule this month. We plan to keep this momentum going.”
Up next on the schedule, Danny Dietrich, pilot of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Hickory Run Orchards, Weikert’s Livestock, Carlisle Auto Salvage, CATS Used Truck Parts, No. 48, will visit three ovals in three days, all beginning with action back at the Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday night, July 8. Dietrich is the current point leader at the world famous paperclip, holding a 60 point cushion over Greg Hodnett.
The 13th annual Weldon Sterner Memorial will be completed on Saturday evening, July 9, at the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown. Dietrich, a former Lincoln Speedway track champion, is scheduled to start on the pole for the Weldon Sterner Memorial. The $4,000-to-win make-up feature will be accompanied by an additional complete program for the 410 sprint cars.
“Double-D” will finish his Central Pennsylvania triple-header on Sunday evening, July 10, at the Trailway Speedway near Hanover, Pennsylvania. The 410 sprint cars will headline the inaugural Armin Hostetter Memorial during their first appearance in ten years.
“We’re going to keep this schedule moving right along and continue to race as much as we can,” Dietrich said. “I really owe it all to my guys. All the success that we’ve had, I owe it all to my team. We’ve had a lot of late nights and long travel during the last few weeks. Their hard work and dedication keeps us moving and allow us to be successful.”
