Danny Dietrich Holds Off Dewease For Williams Grove Sprints, Covert Wires For Lates
4/5/13
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mechanicsburg – Danny Dietrich took the lead just shy of the halfway point and held of Lance Dewease to record the 25-lap sprint car win Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, worth $4,300.

In the 25-lap late model main it was York Haven’s Jason Covert who picked up the win, wiring the field for the checkers.

Dietrich started third in the sprint car field with Logan Schuchart and Ryan Taylor on the front row.

The race was quickly red flagged before one lap could be completed for a multi-car tangle in the fourth corner with no injuries reported.

Schuchart was leading the way with only two laps down when Cory Haas rolled to a stop on the backstretch, again slowing the pace.

Dietrich got by Taylor for second with 20 laps to go and tracked down Schuchart so that the pair was racing nose to tail for the lead with nine down just as Taylor and Dewease were racing in the same fashion for third spot.

Dietrich drove his No. 48 to the outside of Schuchart in the fourth corner to complete the 11th tour and take the lead before entering traffic three laps later.

Though trailing substantially, Dewease eventually got by Schuchart for second with nine laps to go before setting his sights on the leader.

With under five to go Dewease was within striking distance of the pacesetter but it was a move with just over two to go that sealed the deal for Dietrich when he went high in the fourth corner for a two-car pass of traffic.

By putting Gerard McIntyre Jr. and Steve Buckwalter a lap down, he was able to put enough daylight between himself and Dewease over the final one-mile to seal the victory.

The margin of victory for Dietrich over Dewease was .558 seconds. It was his eighth career win at the oval.

Seventh starter Don Kreitz Jr. rode home third followed by Tony Stewart and Schuchart.

Sixth through 10th went to Fred Rahmer, Ryan Taylor, Pat Cannon, Jason Leffler and Rick Lafferty.

Heats for the 27-car field went to Brent Marks, McIntyre and Rahmer with Ryan Smith scoring the consolation.

Covert started second in the late model field and took the lead over Jerry Bard when the greed flag unfurled.

Cautions on laps five, six, nine and 15 regrouped the field onto Covert’s tail but no one was able to challenge his No. 43A.

During the last half of the race, 10th starter Gene Knaub and 11th starter Dan Stone flexed some muscle, breaking into the front of the field but failing to compete for the win.

It was Covert’s fifth career late model victory at the oval.

Knaub took second with nine laps to go followed by Bard, Stone and 14th starter Tyler Hershey.

Sixth through 10th went to Brian Booze, Scott Lebaron, Mike Lupfer, Jim Yoder and Sam Schaeffer.

Heats for the 24 stock cars went to Stone, Bard and Booze.
