ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 5/9/2015 – “Bring on the Outlaws next week!”
So exclaimed Danny Dietrich after claiming his first Lincoln win of the season in the 25-lap Prospect Metal and Used Auto Parts Night feature event at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.
For the second straight week, Dietrich and points leader Brian Montieth thrilled the crowd with another wild ride through lapped traffic through the first 22 non-stop laps. But this time, it was Dietrich turning the tables on Montieth to score his 24th career Lincoln win.
Montieth started tenth and worked his way through the field to grab the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Steve Owings exiting turn two of lap 15. It looked like Montieth was en-route to his fourth win in as many races (counting Williams Grove the last two Fridays and Lincoln last Saturday), but Dietrich, who started 12th, reeled him in as the two raced through heavy lapped traffic with five laps to go.
At the start-finish line to complete lap 22, Dietrich pulled alongside the Premier Auto Works #21, with electronic scoring showing Dietrich with a .001-second lead. That’s when the event’s only caution came out for Cory Hass, who spun in turn two of lap 23.
“It didn’t really matter who was leading at the time,” said Dietrich, “I got really good through the middle down there and able to keep my drive off turn two. That’s where I made all my passes early because everyone is so fast around the top.”
On the final restart, Dietrich held off Montieth, crossing 1.19 seconds ahead at the checkered.
“We’re gonna try,” answered Dietrich when asked whether he and Montieth could beat the World of Outlaws when they invade Lincoln this coming Wednesday, “It’s been good to see the 48 or 21 sitting here…or anybody from this area. Right now, we’ve been so fast and consistent, the two of us. But I hope some of the other guys can get going because we’re going to need a little help I think.”
Owings hung on for third, with Niki Young and 11th-starting Lance Dewease completing the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Robbie Kendall, 22nd-starting Alan Krimes, Hunter Mackison, Austin Hogue, and 16th-starting Adam Wilt.
Heats for the 36 410 sprinters were won by Montieth, Kendall, Hogue, and Danny Dietrich, with Aaron Ott winning the consolation.
Jeff Halligan started on the pole and led every lap of the 20-lap 358 sprint car feature to score his first career sprint car win by 1.68 seconds over outside front row starter Lucas Montgomery, who ran second the entire way. Friday night Williams Grove winner Brie Hersey advancing from sixth starting spot to cross third at the end. Kyle Denmyer and Cole Young completed the top five.
Heats for the 25 358 Sprinters were won by Michael Hamer, Montgomery, and Young.
East Berlin’s Chad Earnst claimed his first career Lincoln win in the 15-lap Central PA Legends feature. He started fourth and assumed the outside front row when Chis Spidle spun in turn two of the initial start. He grabbed the lead on the restart from polesitter Jacob Feltch and was scored the leader of every lap.
Wild racing in behind saw Duane Watson cross second, but he was later disqualified after a post-race inspection, handing second to Feltch, with 14th-starting Mason Chaney credited with third, Bob Stough fourth, and Chad Glatfelter fifth.
Heats for the 28 Legends were won by Scott Haudeshell, Stough, and Earnst, with Rick Hartwig winning the consolation.
Lincoln Speedway will be back in action this Wednesday night, May 13th, as the WORLD OF OUTLAWS invade the Pigeon Hills to take on the PA Posse. Time trials will get underway at 7:30 PM, with pit gates opening at 3:30 p.m. and general admission gates opening at 4 p.m.
Next Saturday night, May 16th, Lincoln Speedway will be dark allowing the Lincoln PA Posse Teams and fans the opportunity to travel and battle the World of Outlaws.
