BROWNSBURG, Ind. (January 17, 2022) – Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, put together a respectable campaign during the 36th running of the annual Chili Bowl Nationals, not only ending the six-day blockbuster in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a Saturday night C-Main start, but activating his week with a preliminary A-Main start on Tuesday. Nearly 400 competitors made the call for Saturday’s Chili Bowl Nationals finale spread across 31 main events ranging from a pair of P-Mains to the 55-lap championship.

Powering Mark Cooper’s Spike Chassis, Sage Fruit, Curb Records, Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, Absolute Automation and Security, DKW Transport, No. 15 entry, Schatz finished 15th in Tuesday’s preliminary main event, driving ahead five spots after starting on the outside of row ten.

Despite finishing second in his preliminary heat race, followed by a third-place finish in his respective qualifier, Schatz did not accumulate enough passing points to automatically lock himself into the evening’s feature. An eventual runner-up finish in the Tuesday night B-Main led to the aforementioned 15th-place score.

With all preliminary results calculated, Schatz found himself locked into one of two Saturday night D-Mains with only the top-five transferring into the evening’s C-Mains. The Fargo, North Dakota, native maintained his place within the top-five after starting third and earned the right to advance into the first C-Main. Although “running the alphabet” was the overall goal, Schatz’ Chili Bowl Nationals concluded in the C, finishing 19th after starting in the exact same position.

“It was a fun week in Tulsa. It’s a special event that attracts talent from all levels of motorsports. It’s fun to be a part of a tradition like that,” Schatz said. “A big ‘thank you’ to all of our partners who made another Chili Bowl trip possible. Hopefully we have the opportunity to try again in the future.”

With Chili Bowl Nationals action complete, Donny Schatz will immediately switch gears and begin preparations for the 2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season, which will activate with Volusia Speedway Park’s annual DIRTcar Nationals on February 10-12.
