BROWNSBURG, Ind. (August 4, 2025) – In all, it was a great stretch through Missouri and Iowa for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, not only opening competition with a podium performance in the Ironman 55 preliminary on Friday, August 1, but ultimately concluding action with three straight top-tens, the last of the three occurring in Knoxville Raceway’s annual Capitani Classic on Sunday, August 3. Schatz, who launched the Sunday blockbuster with a runner-up performance during heat race competition, raced on to finish eighth, improving one position from ninth while battling the best that the sport has to offer.

As noted, Schatz’ weekend opened with a podium, finishing second in the Ironman 55 preliminary at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday, August 1. The ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion and Fargo, North Dakota, native started fourth, driving ahead two positions to record his best World of Outlaws result of the season.

Carson Macedo was the eventual Ironman 55 preliminary night winner.

“He [Macedo] was pretty good,” Schatz said at Pevely on Friday. “Obviously he drove away from us there even in traffic. On the restart when I found myself on the outside, I was kind of surprised that we took off that good on the outside and figured I’d stay there. I could stay with him, and I tried it down here and lost a little bit. Obviously, I didn’t get passed, so I just kept trying to make something work. I tried to move around and find it. All in all, it was a good night.”

Schatz raced on to finish seventh in the 55-lap, $25,000-to-win Ironman 55 finale on Saturday, August 2. His drive forward started from row five, now with 26 WoO top-tens on the season.

With the Ironman 55 and Capitani Classic events officially in the books, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will now turn their attention forward, setting aim on the 64th running of the Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway on August 6-9. Schatz is an 11-time champion of the prestigious event, earning his most recent title in 2022.
