2019 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 2nd – 9270 points (30 points behind Brad Sweet)
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 14, 2019) – Donny Schatz’ visit to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana, on Sunday, October 13, was far from routine. Forced to overcome two incidents, one of which occurring on the opening lap, the ten-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion eventually persevered and rallied to finish 13th at the southern Indiana high banks, one of only seven instances where Schatz finished outside of the top-ten in 2019.
Despite Schatz’ ability to recover, the Fargo, North Dakota-native lost ground in the championship chase, now 30 points behind title rival, Brad Sweet, with another weekend in the Midwest looming.
“As far as results are concerned, It was a disappointing night for our team, but hats off to their work ethic and ability to rebound,” Donny Schatz explained of his night in Haubstadt, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car. “My guys never gave up and they continued to push even when things were at their worst. We’ve had just about everything thrown at us this year. Hopefully we are beyond all of that.”
Starting fifth on the feature grid, things were seemingly on pace for success at Tri-State Speedway, that until Schatz was clipped from behind between turns three and four on the opening lap ultimately resulting in a trip to the work area. Luckily, damage was minimal and Schatz was able to return to the speedway.
Unfortunately, Schatz was caught up in chaos yet again, this time collected in a spin just before the midpoint of the main event. Suffice it to say, the team’s perseverance prevailed and Schatz recovered to finish 13th.
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2019 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship chase with a doubleheader in Kansas and Missouri, this time visiting Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, on Friday, October 18, followed by a stop at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, on Saturday, October 19.
Honoring the late Jason Johnson in 2019, Donny Schatz is the defending race winner at Lake Ozark Speedway, holding off David Gravel and Kerry Madsen for a $10,000 payday.
