September 17, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(East Smethport, PA)…After a successful “Apple Festival Nationals” at Sharon Speedway last weekend, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series will get right back at it this weekend with the eighth annual “Fall Classic” at McKean County Raceway. The three-day extravaganza will feature two rounds of group qualifying this Thursday night (September 19) for RUSH followed by complete shows both Friday and Saturday night for races #18 and 19 on the 2013 slate. Sunday has been reserved as a rain date.
Thursday’s qualifying will set the heat race line-ups for Friday’s $1,200 to-win event and Saturday’s $2,000 to-win event, and award $150 to each of the fast qualifiers! New arriving cars on Friday and/or Saturday are able to join the heat race lineups those nights behind the cars that qualified on Thursday. Saturday’s feature purse is over $2,000 greater than the typical $2,000 to-win feature purse with $250 now being paid to start the feature! McKean has also upped tow money to $75 on Friday, and has added over $2,500 into the purses on top of the standard Sweeney Tour purses!
“The Fall Classic has always been a great weekend for the fans and racers and this year should be no different under the new promotional team at MCR,” acknowledged RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Not only is John Kennedy putting up two complete shows for RUSH, but has gone above and beyond with the payoff especially on Saturday. We have to thank John along with Chris Zuver and Jason Shank for their great support of our Series at not only McKean this season, but at his NDRL events at Roaring Knob and the upcoming huge Pittsburgher next month at PPMS.”
Max Blair enters the weekend as the perennial favorite. The Centerville, Pa. 23-year-old is fresh off his third Sweeney Tour win of the season in dramatic fashion last Saturday night at Sharon with a late race pass of Series point leader Mike Pegher, Jr. Blair has dominated action at the East Smethport, Pa. oval this season winning in nine of his 12 starts including the July 11 Speedweek victory. Pegher’s amazing consistency has kept him in front of the Sweeney Tour points for much of the season with only one finish outside the top 10 in 17 starts- that being a 14th. The Wexford, Pa. 27-year-old has run off nine straight top four finishes including three straight third place efforts to lead 16-year-old Fairmont, West Virginia Ryan Montgomery by 22 points. Montgomery has kept pace with Pegher thanks to 15 top eight finishes in 17 races including three wins. Montgomery has been on a nice streak himself with six straight top four finishes!
