MAUMEE, OH (5-20-13) by Bryan Autullo – F.A.S.T. Public Relations

The Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title (F.A.S.T.) Championship Series presented by KS Sales & Service was back in action in Northern Ohio this past weekend. Mother Nature was not a factor either night making this only the second back-to-back event weekend of the 2013 season.

On Friday, May 17th the series participated in the Eric Phillips 25th Anniversary Classic at Attica Raceway Park. Attica honored Eric Philips, the track’s first promoter in 1988, by running twin features for the F.A.S.T. 410 Sprints with each consisting of 25-laps and both paying out $2,500 to win ($250 to start). The first feature event awarded full F.A.S.T. championship points, while the second was just for cash and bragging rights.

Danny Holtgraver picked up the first feature win of the night with Dale Blaney, Bryan Sebetto, Craig Mintz, and D.J. Foos rounding out the top-five. Foos was the hard charger, picking up 13 positions on his mission to get to the front. The top-8 finishers from the first feature were inverted (by dice roll) to line up the second feature. Shane Stewart went on to win the second event, but 2nd place finisher D.J. Foos challenged for the win late in the race while Dale Blaney held off Brandon Martin (in his Mark Keegan “X” tribute car). Greg Wilson would round out the Top 5.

The F.A.S.T. organization and Attica Raceway Park, along with a generous donation from Kevin Shammo of KS Sales & Service, Linda and Laverne Burns of Burns Electric, and Underground Utilities, awarded a $500 bonus to D.J. Foos, who was the F.A.S.T. member driver with the best average finish between both features. Also, Brandon Martin picked up a $200 bonus with the second best average finish.

On Saturday, the F.A.S.T. Series returned to Fremont Speedway for Night #8 of the 18-race schedule. D.J. Foos continued his successful weekend by setting quick time for the night. The main event would prove to be another exciting race for Foos as he was contending for the win at the end. The feature got off to a rocky start with several spins and restarts, then eventually a red flag on lap 1 for Dean Jacobs who jumped the cushion in turn 3.

Brian Lay led the field on the multiple restarts and ran out front until Brian Smith and D.J. Foos got around Craig Mintz and chased Lay down. Smith would eventually take the lead, but a hard charging Greg Wilson, who started 18th, was rocketing to the front. With just a handful of laps remaining, Wilson and Smith battled for the lead. On lap 26, Wilson banged wheels with Smith sending Smith spinning into the infield. On the restart, Foos gave Wilson all he could handle, but Wilson pulled away in the closing laps and took the win. Foos, Byron Reed, Mintz and Chris Andrews completed the Top 5.

The racing action from the weekend scrambled the F.A.S.T. Kistler Cup point standings as several drivers missed features and shows. After the dust had settled from the racing action over the weekend, Craig Mintz increased his lead to 52-markers thanks to a pair of top-five finishes. A top-10 at Attica and top-5 run at Fremont helped Chris Andrews solidify his spot in second place, while D.J. Foos jumped into the top-five for the first time this season and sits in 3rd. The Fremont, Ohio native has started to turn heads thanks to an impressive weekend aboard the Genzman Racing Enterprises #53. Caleb Griffith moved into 4th place just 18-points behind Foos. A roller coaster of a weekend for the B&S Racing #5 dropped Byron Reed into 5th place after missing the feature at Attica, but rebounding with a podium finish at Fremont.

The Fremont/Attica Sprint Title will sit idle for the next two weeks as the tough local contingent welcomes the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions over Memorial Weekend at Fremont Speedway. Then the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars Series invades Attica Raceway Park the following weekend. F.A.S.T. Series action for both the 410 Sprints and 305 Sprints returns Friday, June 7th at Attica and Saturday, June 8th at Fremont.
