Mercer, PA (September 4, 2012): It’s hard to believe that the racing season at Mercer Raceway Park is almost over. But, this Saturday, September 8, the track will crown its points champions in all six divisions of the Saturday Night Live! program. Currently, the points leaders are Eric Williams in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars; Rob Curtis in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds; Joe McEwen in the Ti22 Performance Outlaw Sprint Warriors; Rusty Moore in the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars; Mark Marcucci in the Big Daddy’s Speed Center/Rock Concrete Modified Lites; and Steve Longwell, Jr. in the Mini Stocks. All of them are gunning for their first track championships, except for Moore, who is looking for a repeat. Double points will be on the line, so positions could change!
And, what better night to celebrate the championships than on Meet Your Heroes Night? Before the features get started, all fans in attendance will get to go onto the frontstretch to meet and greet their favorite drivers, to snap a few photos and get some autographs, and to give the racers the extra encouragement they may need to take the checkers first. This special promotion is made possible by Herr’s.
A very special guest will also be on hand this Saturday. Cowboy Brian Steinman is getting a pass from his doctors so that he can be with his friends and racing family that have supported him since his tragic accident at Lernerville Speedway. Nobody will want to miss the opportunity to pay tribute to this fallen hero. Remember that every fan wearing a Cowboy Steinman shirt of any kind will get a dollar off the admission price. If you don’t have yours yet, please contact Rev. Bill Beck. A limited number of shirts are still available for sale at the entrances to the speedway. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts go directly to Cowboy’s recovery fund. There will also be other fun activities to help Cowboy in this time of need.
In addition, Saturday night will be American Cancer Society Night at the Park. We will be racing for a cure. Every cancer survivor will be admitted free.
Regular event ticket pricing will be in effect despite all the extras taking place. So, adults will be admitted for $13, seniors for $11, and students for $5. Children ages 8 and under are always free at Mercer Raceway Park. The economical Family Pass will be good for two adults and up to four minors of any age. That is just $28. Pit passes will be $25.
If you cannot make it to the track this Saturday, please remember that there will be no racing on the oval on September 15. Instead, the USA East Regional Final Fall Nationals Truck and Tractor Pullling Event will take place in the pulling pit! There will be a September 16 raindate for that.
The final racing on the oval will be held on September 21 and 22, when Mercer Raceway Park stages the 13th Annual Little Guy Nationals. There will be complete programs held each night. Information and registration forms can be found on the track website,www.mercerracewaypark.com, by clicking on the tab for Little Guy Nationals, or by contacting the track office at 724-662-1310. Competitors are reminded that there is a discount for submitting their registrations in advance.
