Kittanning, Pennsylvania native and Fully Injected teammate, Kevin Schaeffer, is preparing for what could be his last year in a 410 sprint car. The Western Pennsylvania hotshoe has decided that enough is enough – and plans to ‘retire’ when the season comes to a close this fall.
“I’m going to give it up” chuckled Kevin when discussing plans for the upcoming season, “I have just had enough!”
Kevin shown in his familiar ‘yellow’ no. 9 at Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, Pennsylvania for a rare open wheel appearance.
Schaeffer has had much success in 410 sprint car competition around Western Pennsylvania during his 14 year tenure. His resume includes three consecutive track championships at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania (2006-2008) while also earning track titles at Sharon Speedway (2004) and Challenger Raceway (2000). Kevin ended his 2011 campaign 3rd in the final Lernerville Speedway point’s chase while chasing his fourth title.
As far as 2012 is concerned, it’s business as usual. The familiar yellow no. 9 plans to open the year at Lernerville Speedway on April 20th for a normal “Fab Four” event. From there, Friday night competition at Lernerville Speedway will be on the weekly agenda – as well as making a few stops at surrounding venues that are offering rare open wheel appearances in 2012. Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pennsylvania do not offer 410 sprint car racing on a weekly basis; but, like in the years’ past, they will each host a few open wheel shows for fans and competitors to enjoy.
“I think we will run the Dog Hollow Speedway shows because they are so close” explained Kevin, “and probably run a few of the PMS (Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway) shows this summer, too.”
Although a farewell tour is not planned like recent World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series retiree, Jason Meyers- both of their future outlooks remain the same; spending quality time with friends and family.
