TULSA, Okla. (June 16, 2014) – The 2nd annual Bob Westphal Memorial Cup / ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek kicked off Saturday at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway with Seth Bergman earning his fist victory at the famed half-mile, and first triumph during Speedweek.
Taking the start of the week off, crews will gear up for four consecutive nights of racing across Oklahoma and Missouri with the Lawton Speedway scheduled to begin the run on Wednesday, June 18.
The ninth time the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real has visited the Oklahoma oval for Speedweek, the visit will be the 13th time the National arm of the American Sprint Car Series has visited the three-eighths mile Lawton Speedway.
Jeff Swindell took the win one year ago at the Lawton Speedway, leading start to finish over Dustin Morgan who nearly worked past the Tennessee veteran following a late race restart. Ultimately, Swindell’s margin of victory was a straight-a-way.
Thursday, June 19 will see the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour head north to the Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. The track built by the Hahn family, Mike Ward grabbed the first every Speedweek checkered flag at the tricky quarter-mile. Keep in the theme of Tennessee based winners, Jeff Swindell doubled up on wins last year, holding off a last lap attempt by Tony Bruce, Jr. for the win.
The 2014 stop at the Creek County Speedway is the 14th for the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV in Speedweek competition, and 19th overall for the series.
Returning to the Speedweek lineup for the first time since June 3, 2003, the Outlaw Motorsports Park is scheduled for Friday, June 20. The second trip of 2014 for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, Aaron Reutzel ran down Jason Johnson in traffic for the victory on May 2, 2014. Shane Stewart is the defending Speedweek winner at the Outlaw Motorsports Park.
Wrapping up Saturday, June 21 at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” has seen two first time National Tour winners with Cody Baker winning in 2012, followed by Jonathan Cornell from eighteenth in 2013.
The third year that the Lucas Oil Speedway has hosted the Speedweek Finale, the series has visited the Missouri mecca of mud a dozen times since 2006.
The American Bank of Oklahoma Sooner Region will co-sanction events at the Lawton Speedway, Creek County Speedway, and Outlaw Motorsports Park. Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway will co-sanction with the Speedway Motors Warrior Region. All nights award National, Regional, and Speedweek points.
