BUTLER, Pa. (December 22, 2024) – As they do each and every December, shorttrack diehards from across the globe will quickly turn their attention to the Sooner State, amping up for what proves to be one of the most heavily contested, as well as competitive, small car events in the country, welcoming the world’s most talented wheelman for a chance a coveted Driller trophy, and a permanent mark in the history books.

And for Butler, Pennsylvania’s Cullen Hutchison, this year’s highly-anticipated Tulsa Shootout – which kicks-off officially with a morning practice round on December 31 – will be busier than ever, as he is set to compete in five of the six divisions highlighted with the Winged Outlaw and Non-Wing Outlaw classes.

Hutchison, who will wheel the Classic Ink USA, Open Joist, E2 Apparel, Sam Johnson Racing, Royal Chassis, No. 83H in each of his five starts, is certainly no stranger to the indoor blockbuster, ultimately highlighting his first-ever visit to Tulsa Expo Raceway in January 2024 with a Winged A-Class B-Main appearance; an incredible feat considering nearly 400 cars were entered for that specific division.

“We’re excited to get back to Tulsa. It’s an event we’ve been mentally preparing for since we left last January,” Hutchison said. “It’s the place everyone wants to be, and it’s the place where everyone wants to win. It all starts on day one. We have a very busy schedule on our hands, so we’re going to take things one day at a time and just work to put ourselves in the best positions possible. With Sam Johnson of Sam Johnson Racing in our corner, we know our potential is limitless. He’s been working so hard these last eight weeks getting things set for the 2025 season. The Shootout is our focus now, but we’ll be heading south for Florida Speedweeks shortly after, then we’ll be turning our attention to Duquoin, Illinois, followed by a trip to California in March. We have a lot on our plate, but we’ll be ready.

“It’s such a fun and crazy atmosphere at the Shootout,” Hutchison continued. “You have to be on your A-game from night one. If you fall behind early, you’re going to be behind at the end of the week. If you can compete at this level, you can compete anywhere and this is a great way to really boost our momentum going forward.”

Competitors will begin the move-in process at Tulsa Expo Raceway on December 30, followed by practice and racing on December 31, flanked by four more consecutive days of competition on January 1-4. The aforementioned Golden Drillers will be awarded on Saturday, January 4. Hutchison will compete in Winged Outlaw, Non-Wing Outlaw, Restricted A-Class, Winged A-Class, and Stock Non-Wing.
