CHICORA, Pa. (September 7, 2021) – Chicora, Pennsylvania’s George Hobaugh was one position away from securing his second sprint car victory of the 2021 season on Saturday night at Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pennsylvania, but time ran short, forcing the Western Pennsylvania open wheeler to cap Tri-City’s Labor Day Weekend opener with a runner-up finish after starting eighth on the $3,000-to-win grid.

For Hobaugh, the podium result equaled his top performance of the holiday weekend, opening his three-race schedule with top-ten run at Lernerville Speedway one night prior, all before finishing 13th in Tri-City’s $4,000-to-win Labor Day finale on Sunday.

Hobaugh’s top-ten outcome at Lernerville resulted from a ninth-place score; a third consecutive top-ten at the Sarver oval.

“I think we could have had something for AJ (Flick) at Tri-City on Saturday…we just ran outta time,” Hobaugh said, driver of the Hobaugh Motorsports, Krill Recycling, Laskowski Plumbing, Ridgeview Security, Hobaugh’s Auto Parts, Colliers Custom Kitchen and Bath, No. 40 sprint car. “It’s been a pretty solid season for our team. The plan was to race at Sharon on Saturday, but we’ve decided to head east and enter the Tuscarora 50. It’s going to be a long, tough weekend, but we know our potential at Port Royal. It all begins with qualifying.”

George Hobaugh and Hobaugh Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with the heavily sought-after Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. The three-day blockbuster, set to headline action on Thursday through Saturday, September 9-11, will feature three complete All Star Circuit of Champions programs kicking-off with an $8,000-to-win preliminary on Thursday. Competition will continue with another preliminary contest on Friday awarding $10,000-to-win, all of which capped with the 54th running of the 50-lap Tuscarora 50 on Saturday. Commemorating its 54th edition, the 2021 Tuscarora 50 will award a $54,000 payday.

Certainly no stranger to Port’s “Speed Palace,” Hobaugh has one top-five at the Port Royal halfmile this season, finishing fourth early in the year.
