Hutchison perseveres in Ocala, Eyes second Midwest Winter Nationals crown in Illinois

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

BUTLER, Pa. (February 25, 2025) – It was a hard-fought week in the Sunshine State for Butler, Pennsylvania’s own Cullen Hutchison, and despite an eventual mechanical woe that forced the 12-year-old to a hop in a different car following Wednesday’s open practice, Hutchison’s four-day campaign (February 12-15) in Marion County Speedway’s Bullring Bonanza went on to be impressive, as well as consistent, qualifying for four of the main events contested while recording three total top-tens; two in the Non-Wing Outlaw ranks and one in the Winged Outlaw class.

Hutchison, driver of the Classic Ink USA, Open Joist, E2 Apparel, Sam Johnson Racing, Royal Chassis, No. 83H Outlaw Micro, finished fourth and seventh in the aforementioned top-ten appearances within the Non-Wing class, and was seventh with the Wing on in Thursday’s program. The recent Tulsa Shootout podium finisher was well on his way to a top-ten in Saturday’s Non-Wing finale when a mechanical issue stalled his forward progress; he was up to 12th from the rear when the issue occurred.

The Western Pennsylvania ace was forced to start at the rear in Saturday’s Non-Wing finale after transferring through the evening’s B-Main. Hutchison was forced to start at the tail of the “B,” as well, as an electrical mishap caused a heat race “DNF.”

“Not the way we wanted our trip to Ocala to start, but for Sam Johnson to step up and allow me to compete in one of his own cars for Bullring Bonanza says so much about who he is and his dedication. It ended up being a great weekend and I’m super excited for the next few months,” Hutchison explained. “I’m excited to head to Illinois this weekend. I was fortunate to get a win there last year and I’m confident we have what it takes to do it again.”

With Florida action complete, Cullen Hutchison and Sam Johnson Racing will now look to Duquoin, Illinois, aimed to enter the annual Midwest Winter Nationals at Duquoin State Fairgrounds on February 28 and March 1. Hutchison is a defending Midwest Winter Nationals champion, earning a Restricted Micro feature victory by leading early circuit; he started the weekend’s finale from the pole position via heat race triumph.
