BUTLER, Pa. (September 23, 2024) – It was a full weekend in the Land of Lincoln for Butler, Pennsylvania’s Cullen Hutchison and Hutchison Motorsports, and despite the team’s two-race micro sprint agenda ending short of their full potential (due in whole to a nowhere-to-go situation), the speed and the progress was more than noticeable, highlighting the weekend with a top-five on Friday, September 20.
Hutchison, ace of the Open Joist, E2 Apparel, Classic Ink USA, Sam Johnson Racing, Royal Chassis, and Lockhart Raceway, No. 83 non-wing micro, finished fourth in his top-five appearance, doing so at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, Illinois. In fact, it was a near-perfect evening for the Western Pennsylvania youngster, setting the evening’s fastest qualifying time before racing on to finish fourth in his respective heat race.
As noted, Hutchison’s weekend potential was actually cut short, nearly doubling up in the top-five category before disaster struck at Coles County Speedway in Mattoon, Illinois, on Saturday, September 21. While battling for a podium position, Hutchison was collected in an incident involving the race leader as well as the runner-up. The eventual roadblock, bending a wheel and cutting a tire, forced Hutchison to retire; he was scored 16th.
Leading up to Saturday’s $5,000-to-win main event, Hutchison was an obvious threat, kicking things off with a heat race victory before finishing fourth in the evening’s dash.
“Overall, a great weekend for our team. Sam Johnson does an incredible job with these race cars and we’re lucky to work with him,” Hutchison was quick to note. “I think we were in a great position to be a winning threat on Saturday at Coles County, but those things happen. Out of our control, for sure, but we’ll work for some redemption our next time out.”
