INTEREST BUILDS DAILY FOR NEW SWEENEY RUSH SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS; INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 26 & OCTOBER 30
(Pulaski, PA)…It’s only been a little more than two weeks since the press release announcing the debut of the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Sportsman Modified division for competition in 2014; however, interest has been building on a daily basis heading into the two upcoming informational meetings. The first will take place this Saturday (October 26) at 12 p.m. at Precise Racing Products/HTMA located just south of Lernerville Speedway at 110 South Pike Rd. Sarver, PA and the second coming on Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. at the Hyde (PA) Fire Hall near Clearfield at 1622 Washington Ave., Hyde, PA.
The Northeast-style dirt Modified division will feature GM 602 crate engines ($3,149 through Sweeney’s Pace Performance), Hoosier spec Tires on steel wheels, and affordable and long-lasting Bilstein “sealed” shocks ($135). RUSH has aligned with DIRTcar basically mirroring their rules. The partnership will allow the Series to work together toward mutually beneficial events and promotions in the future.
“The excitement and interest has really been positive and encouraging,” stated RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “We’re getting calls and e-mails on a daily basis with inquiries and several racers making a commitment to run the class in 2014. To date we have had around 30 interested parties request to be put on our Sportsman Modified contact list. Interest has come from former Modified racers, young go kart racers, and others who feel the class will provide them with an affordable opportunity to become involved in racing Another positive that has already begun to happen is that potential RUSH Sportsman Modified racers are contacting other Modified drivers throughout the region to purchase cars for their programs.”
Five regional speedways have already announced their commitment to each host multiple events in 2014 including Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, PA), Sharon Speedway (Hartford, OH), Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway (Imperial, PA), America’s Motorsports Park (Clearfield, PA), and Bradford (PA) Speedway. Through the support of these four speedways alone, it is expected that the inaugural schedule will be comprised of over 35 events, a combination of weekly and touring shows. Other tracks such as McKean County Raceway (East Smethport, Pa.) and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, Pa.) have expressed interest with others to likely be added.
A minimum of a $10,000 regional cash point fund has been guaranteed for RUSH member racers. In addition, one lucky racer will win a brand new GM 602 engine in a promotion to be announced, additional contingency programs, and a preferred starting spot in a B Main Qualifier at Super DIRT Week XLIII in 2014 will also be part of the program. As the Series progresses, individual “Touring” and “Weekly” point funds will be established along with the addition of a popular “Futures Cup” program for the teenage racers. All three of these programs have already proved successful with the RUSH Late Models Series.
“We’re really looking forward to the upcoming meetings,” stated RUSH Co-Director Mike Leone. “They will provide a great setting to further discuss and clarify questions that potential participants may have; not only with ourselves, but with some of the regional promoters that have chosen to be involved. Precise Racing Products/HTMA owner Chris Archer will also be on hand to discuss the ‘sealed’ Bilstein shock, Hoosier spec tire, wheels and other general questions racers may have about other parts that may be used on their chassis.”
Another informational meeting featuring guest speakers that have a vast amount of experience in the Sportsman Modified class will be scheduled after the holidays to provide continue support for the racers in this division.
