Lafferty And Nouse Win Williams Grove Sprint Cars
5/3/13
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mechanicsburg – Rick Lafferty of Pennington, New Jersey, scored the Williams Grove Speedway 410 sprint car feature on Friday night, taking $3,600 for the win plus $150 in lap money.
In the 358 sprint main, Kevin Nouse scored for the sixth time in his career at Williams Grove.
Lafferty started second in the 25-lap 410 sprint main and followed polesitter Steve Buckwalter around the track closely from the beginning of the race before finally securing the top spot.
With Buckwalter glued to the bottom in his No. 17B, Lafferty raced the high line around the oval to cross the stripe less than a car length behind the leader lap after lap, beginning on the fourth circuit.
But it took until just shy of the halfway point, on lap 11 to be exact, for Lafferty to push his black racer around Buckwalter’s white machine and put it front.
And once out front, Lafferty jetted away as he settled into the bottom groove to pick up the victory.
At the finish, Lafferty took the checkers as Buckwalter was setting his car into the third corner.
Lafferty’s margin of victory in the non-stop affair was 6.586 seconds.
It was the Jersey racer’s fifth career win at the oval.
Follwing Buckwalter in third was Jim Siegel followed by Gerard McIntyre Jr. and Greg Hodnett.
Sixth through 10th went to Alan Krimes, Bent Marks, Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer and Ryan Smith.
Heats for the 24-car field went to Don Kreitz Jr., Danny Dietrich and Krimes.
Nouse started eighth in the 20-lap 358 sprint main and blasted up to second on just the first lap.
He followed second starter Ryan Greth for only two laps before pulling the trigger for the lead.
The race pace was halted twice, first with nine away and again with sixt laps to go.
Austin Hogue moved from fourth to second on the lap nine restart but given the clear shot at Nouse with six to go was unable to challenge for the win.
Hogue was second followed by Rodney Westhafer, Mark Smith and Tim Berkheimer.
Sixth through 10th went to Adrian Shaffer, Ryan Wilson, TJ Stutts, Greth and Eric Tomecek.
Heats for the 25-car field went to Nouse, Wilson and Shaffer.
