-Retirement Reigns –
Within the past week, three notable figures within the dirt late model community announced their retirements. Louisiana driver, Chris Wall, was the first to do so last week. Mississippi driver and former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitor, David Breazeale, would also announce his retirement just a few days ago. On the same day, famed dirt late model car owner, Dale Beitler, announced that he would be selling off his equipment and taking a leave from car owning.
The Dirt Track World Championships at the renamed ‘Atomic Speedway’ in Chilicothe, OH took place this past weekend. Don O’Neal led all one-hundred laps to pick up his third ‘Crown Jewel’ late model event of the season. The fierce points battle between drivers Jimmy Owens and Scott Bloomquist was also on the line for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heading into the event. After regaining the points lead the previous week, Jimmy Owens was able to hold off Hall of Fame driver, Scott Bloomquist, to win his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship.
