Port Royal – Chad Layton of Harrisburg won his third sprint car feature of the year Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, taking $3,200 for the victory while Dover’s Coleby Frye took the late model championship event worth $2,000.

Tim Krape was victorious in the pro stock main.

Layton thwarted an attack by Pat Cannon in his heat race to ride home third and when a 12 came up for feature inversion that finish placed him on the pole of the 25-lapper.

The first 23 laps of the sprint main went non-stop with fourth starter Mike Wagner keeping pace with Layton through traffic after he moved into the spot on the seventh tour.

Wagner was able to run both sides of the speedway as opposed to Layton who seemed to lose his momentum every time he moved off of the top groove.

And that allowed Wagner to keep Layton close as the leaders worked traffic.

But all that traffic went away when the only caution flag of the race came out with two laps to go for a stopped Mark Bitner on the frontstretch.

Wagner took a look underneath Layton for the lead on the restart but clear track found Layton zipping away to the victory, the 11th of his career at the Juniata County oval.

Layton crossed the finish line .738 seconds ahead of Wagner, Davey Sammons, 11th starter Steve Buckwalter and 12th starter Blane Heimbach.

Sixth through 10th went to Dylan Cisney,m 20th starter Brian Leppo, Doug Esh, Curt Stroup and Rodney Westhafer.

Heats for the 33-car sprint field went to Heimbach, Buckwalter, Cisney and Mike Erdley.

The consolation was cancelled after a four-car tangle on the frontchute at the start caused nasty spills involving Karl Baker, Rod Stroup, Mark Coldren and Trenton Scheaffer

Frye had the luxury of starting the 25-lap late model championship on the pole and led at the start over Matt Parks.

Numerous caution flags riddled the first half of the event but gave Mike Lupfer several shots at the leader however Frye’s No. 32 proved unwavering.

Lupfer took over second on the second lap and after the field got sorted out it was he and Parks who raced door to door for second over the final half of the event.

On some laps, Lupfer would have the spot at the line while on others Parks was ahead by a nose.

In the end Parks got the spot for the finish while Frye crossed nearly five seconds ahead of the field for his second Port win of the season.

Lupfer was third followed by Dylan Yoder and Terry Naugle.

Sixth through 10th went to Mitch Hack, Brett Schadel, Chad Hollenbeck, Andy Haus and Tim Wilson.

Wilson started last in the field after catching serious air in the third turn during his heat race and turning the car over.

Heats for the 24-car field went to Frye, Jim Yoder and Parks.

Although he started third in the field, Tim Krape led all 15 laps of the pro stock main to record his sixth feature win of the year at the track.

Fourth starter Andrew Shoop took second at the start and finished there followed by Dan Berry, Kyle Rapp and Nate Stroup.

Heats went to Shoop and Krape.
