“Mad Max” Stambaugh Earns Victory at I-96 Speedway, Concludes NRA Sprint Invaders season second in championship standings
By Fully Injected Motorsports:
ELIDA, Ohio (August 21, 2016) – For the second time in as many years, “Mad Max” Stambaugh cruised to a runner-up finish in the K&L Ready Mix NRA 360 Sprint Invaders championship, earning one main event victory along the way at Waynesfield Raceway Park on July 23. Stambaugh, pilot of the Elwer Fence, Specialized Therapy, Biggies Coast to Coast, Triple JJJ, Dale’s Concrete, Quality Welding Fab, Full Effect Lawn Mowing, Radio Hospital, No. 5M, ended his NRA title chase just 32 points behind champion Jared Horstman. In 2015, Stambaugh was tied for the championship at season’s end, but was scored second due to number of victories.
“We were close again this year, but still a little short,” Stambaugh explained. “We had a few results that put us out of the championship. Jared (Horstman) doesn’t make mistakes too often, so in order to keep ahead of him, you have to do the same. I shouldn’t complain. We had a fantastic season with the NRA and I can’t thank my family and supporters enough for the opportunity. We have some plans to fill in the rest of this year with some 410 sprint car racing. Before we know it, we’ll be preparing for next season.”
In addition to his full-time commitment to the NRA Sprint Invaders campaign in 2016, “Mad Max” participated in a select number of regional 360 and 410 sprint car programs, entering 27 events to date. The Elida, Ohio, native finished inside the top-ten on 24 separate occasions, including 20 top-five finishes and two victories. Stambaugh’s second victory, on top of his NRA Sprint Invaders win at Waynesfield, took shape on Friday night, August 19, during Sprints On Dirt (S.O.D.) sprint car competition at the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan.
“Feels good to get that second win of the season,” Stambaugh said. “The first one if always the hardest, but sometimes the second one is just as difficult. We weren’t even sure that we would race this weekend. We kept an eye on the weather and things turned out to be OK, so we trucked to Michigan. I’m comfortable at I-96. It fits my driving style, so I always looks forward to getting back there.”
As far as upcoming events, nothing is set in stone. With NRA commitments complete for 2016, Stambaugh plans to set his schedule on a week-by-week basis; taking into consideration equipment, weather, and travel.
