Marks Adds Two More Top 10s as He Prepares for a Busy Summer

Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (June 4, 2013) – As the summer is heating up, Brent Marks said his team is ready for the intense action.

Marks is gearing up for five consecutive races this week, including a trio with USAC for the first time in two years, before the famed PA Speedweek kicks off at the end of this month.

“The only place I’m not exactly where I want to be is Williams Grove (Speedway),” he said. “With all their cancelations this year we haven’t gotten to race much this year. I want to get better there. I think we have a really good program everywhere else.”

Marks had mixed results last weekend during the usual doubleheader at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday and Lincoln Speedway on Saturday.

It began when he qualified fourth quickest at Williams Grove Speedway and finished fourth in his heat race. The feature inversion started Marks inside the second row of the main event, which didn’t go as planned.

“We just missed the setup,” he said. “I fell back and finished eighth. It was a rough night on Friday. I was just too loose. The way that the track was throughout the night I figured there was going to be a curb to lean on for the feature. The curb just got too high and eventually wore away. The last couple of laps it rubbered up on the bottom.”

His eighth-place finish seemed to set the tone for the weekend as Lincoln Speedway started out rough. Marks’ sprint car developed a bad vibration during his heat race, which he placed fourth in. The team decided to change the entire drive line and the rear end prior to the 25-lap feature, which Marks started on the inside of the sixth row.

“We barely made it out for the feature,” he said. “We got lucky and got out there. We threw a setup at it and were able to go from 11th to second. I felt like I had a good enough car to win.”

Marks picked off several cars before climbing into fourth place in the final 10 laps. With the top four cars dodging traffic, leader Danny Dietrich was able to maneuver into a sizeable lead before Marks took over the runner-up position in the closing laps.

“By the time I got to second with three laps to go Danny had a straightaway lead,” he said. “We either needed a 30-lap race or a yellow.”

Marks finished second to record his 10th top five of the season.

This busy week of racing begins Wednesday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., with USAC. On Thursday, Marks will race with USAC at Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, Pa., before returning to his winged sprint car for Friday at Williams Grove Speedway and Saturday at Lincoln Speedway. The weekend concludes on Sunday at Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown, Pa., with USAC.
