FOREST, Ohio (July 10, 2023) – It was an action-packed weekend in the Land of Lincoln for Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports, not only joining the USAC National Sprint Cars in a two-day stay at the always-exciting Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois, but the Forest, Ohio-based open wheel team scored a top-ten in the process, officially notching their 13th of the season.
Impressive enough, Westfall, ace of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators Inc, Hempy Water, DPI Ink, No. 33M sprint car, earned his sixth-place outcome in a hard charging display, commencing his forward progress from 17th on the A-Main grid. The former Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) champion and recent Series winner launched Macon’s program with the 20th-fastest time during qualifying time trials, racing on to finish second during his respective heat race.
Unfortunately, the team was unable to repeat success the following evening; they did not qualify for Macon’s weekend finale.
“It was fun to compete at Macon. We obviously wanted a better outcome on Saturday, but we’ll shake it off and move forward,” Westfall explained. “USAC Indiana Sprint Week is next on our schedule. It’s a long and grueling week, but I’m confident we have what it takes to be in contention night in and night out.”
