FOREST, Ohio (September 30, 2019) – Better known as the ‘Passing Master,’ Pleasant Hill, Ohio’s Matt Westfall put on quite the display during his 4-Crown Nationals appearance at Eldora Speedway on Saturday, September 28. Westfall, the primary ace for Ray Marshall Motorsports, entered two out of the four divisions showcased during the 38th running of the 4-Crown Nationals, highlighting each of his respective main events with seventh place outcomes. Impressive enough, Westfall’s non-wing sprint and champ car results each stemmed from charges near the tail, thus the aforementioned nickname.
Kicking things off in a hurry, Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports rallied from 16th to finish seventh during the USAC National Sprint Car Series portion of the evening program.
Only to outdo himself, mechanical woes during qualifying forced Westfall to start from the tail during the USAC Silver Crown main event, eventually leading to a seventh place finish from 27th. With all advancement considered, Westfall was crowned the weekend’s overall ‘Passing Master.’
“I have a lot of laps around that place in a lot of different divisions. That certainly helps,” Matt Westfall said, driver of the Ray Marshall Motorsports/Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Crazy Lady Restaurant and Bar/Hempy Water/DPI Ink/No. 33M non-wing sprint car and the Westfall Marshall Motorsports No. 54 champ car. “I can’t thank Ray Marshall and my dad enough for helping me make a weekend like this possible. The overall goal was to put ourselves in a prime position to win races. Passing the most cars is just as special it its own way.”
In addition to his passing display at Eldora, Westfall kicked-off his weekend with a hard charge from 20th to 12th during action at Gas City Speedway on Thursday, September 26.
Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will return to non-wing action during the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) season finale on Saturday, October 5. If things go according to plan, Westfall should leave Atomic Speedway as the 2019 Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series champion.
