Max Stambaugh’s Speedweek plans day by day; Earns first GLSS victory at Gas City
By Fully Injected Motorsports:
ELIDA, Ohio (June 13, 2018) – “Mad Max” Stambaugh’s decision to travel west from his Elida, Ohio, home to compete in northern Indiana proved to be the right decision, not only earning a triumph at the always-exciting Gas City Speedway, but bettering a competitive, 32-car, Great Lakes Super Sprints field in the process.
Stambaugh, who has been focusing on a diverse schedule that includes 360c.i. and 410c.i. starts, earned his $2,000 top prize in dramatic fashion, ultimately forced to utilize lapped traffic to set-up a last corner pass over race-long leader and Michigan native, Dustin Daggett . It was a first-ever GLSS victory for Stambaugh, bumping his overall win total to eight over the course of four seasons.
“We tossed around the idea about going to Gas City on Friday for a few days. I’m glad we went,” Stambaugh said jokingly, driver of the Wicked Cushion/Lima Cadillac Chevrolet/Biggies Coast to Coast/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Triple JJJ/Dale’s Concrete/No. 5M sprint car. “I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. It feels good to get a win, finally. It has been a long time coming. The win was great timing, too. Hopefully that will give us some positive momentum heading into speedweek.”
Up next on the schedule, Max Stambaugh plans to join the All Star Circuit of Champions for select Ohio Sprint Speedweek events. Although the exact number of events is still in question, the plan is to take things day by day. If results are favorable, Stambaugh will continue. If results are unfavorable, Stambaugh will likely hold off on the midweek dates and rejoin the All Stars when they return to Lima on Friday, June 22.
“I’m not really too sure of the plan just yet. I know we want to race all of them, but results will tell the tale for us,” Stambaugh continued about Ohio Sprint Speedweek. “We’ll just play things one day at a time. Entering Speedweek with a recent win under our belts is motivating.”
Stambaugh is certainly no stranger to All Star Circuit of Champions competition, earning Rookie of the Year honors with the Series in 2017, highlighting his campaign with 13 top-ten finishes and ending the year fourth in the overall driver standings.
