Ohio Valley Sprint Association

JULY 2, 2013
Parkersburg, WV-After an extreme amount of rain slammed the region for the past several days and considering the upcoming forecast for more, West Virginia Motor Speedway has proactively cancelled the upcoming race scheduled for Wednesday, July 3rd. Excessive flooding in the area and soppy track conditions have led to the early decision. For the Ohio Valley Sprint Cars, this event was scheduled to kick off a four day stretch of racing action within a hundred mile region. Although, Mother Nature may have won this race, West Virginia Motor Speedway and the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association are already working closely in scheduling for a make-up event. Stay tuned to www.ovsprintcars.com andwww.wvspeedway.com for further information and updates.

OVSCA is still scheduled to compete at Midway Speedway on July 4th for the first of now three holiday shows. With nature’s assistance, the track is expected to be in nothing less than the best condition for a mud slingin’ good time! Grab a friend, grab a seat and hold on tight at Midway Speedway. OVSCA is ready to pack the house and do battle.

WEEKEND DETAILS:

Parkersburg, WV-Who needs fireworks for “the fourth” when you have the excitement of 800+ horsepowered winged warriors in your back yard, not one, or two nights, but four nights back to back and back to back again. This Independence Day, there can not possibly be a better way of celebrating with the entire family than visiting the local dirt tracks for this season’s hottest mud slingin’ action. Kicking off the run the sprints of the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association will be traveling to the Speedplant, West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV.
The first race kicks off with a huge “boom” as drivers will compete for the largest purse in OVSCA history. West Virginia Motor Speedway has upped the OVSCA “top tier” structure to a whopping $3500 to win, and better yet for the field of competitors, $400 to start!
The newly reconfigured track is a “large 3/8” mile and will be hammer down racing from top to bottom. It has been years since the sprints have visited the facility and a first since the modifications have been completed. The local fan anticipation is buzzing as West Virginia Motor Speedway is a staple among the local dirt track enthusiasts of young and old. The fan excitement can not be surmounted by the number of drivers also looking forward to compete at the facility. For many OVSCA competitors, this will be a first opportunity to race at WVMS not only since the changes have been made, but ever. As the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association continues to grow and expand regionally, it is an honor to be added to yet another new facility’s schedule. OVSCA appreciates the efforts by WVMS to support the drivers competing and further boosting the purse. In addition to sprints, WVMS will be hosting the Renegades of Dirt, Modifieds, Fastrak NE Late Models, Edge Hot Mods and FWD 4 Cylinders. Thursday, the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association will travel to Midway Speedway for another first visit of the 2013 season. Midway is under new management by the Perine Family and is full of continuous and exciting changes. As one of the “raciest” tracks throughout the region, this show is bound to be one of the best. The tacky surface provides for mud slinging, slide jobs like you haven’t even seen before. It has been quite some time since sprints made a trip to Miday, and OVSCA is excited to put on an awesome show. Although other classes will be running heat races and b-mains, the sprints will be the featured and only full event for Thursday’s show. There will also be a hog roast and live band for Thursday night entertainment. In addition to the kick-off event, Midway has scheduled a weekend absolutely full of racing fun. Street Stocks, Mini Wedges, 4-Cylinders, Modifieds, Late Models and even Power Wheels for the kiddos are among the scheduled events. There is also plenty of special programming, from a poker run to bike and car shows, to trailer races demo derbies and lots of live music. For the third event scheduled this week, the Ohio Valley Sprint Cars will be back at Skyline Speedway Friday and ready to do battle on yet another extremely different track surface. The hard and typically slick clay at Skyline tends to create fits for some and is favored by others. You can catch Jim Stinson and Chris Myers driving just inches off the back stretch wall, and others taking advantage of the low line as close to the infield tires as they can press. All season, the sprints have put on great shows at Skyline with side-by-side action and perfect execution through lap traffic. After raining out this past week, fans and drivers alike are excited to be back “home” at Skyline Speedway over this long weekend stretch of action. Look to www.skylinespeedway.net or facebook for more information about Skyline.

Concluding the four-day stretch, the Ohio Valley Sprint Cars will once again invade a driver-favored, Ohio Valley Speedway. Just like every other opportunity the sprints are given to race at OVS, it is expected that the fans will pack the house again. Ohio Valley Speedway’s long stretches and tight corners always create extreme passing action and an exciting show for everyone. Ande Layfield, driver of the black number 21, has deemed Ohio Valley as his own favorite and rightfully so as he has found himself in victory lane in both of his last two trips. After three nights out, the question in the air is will he be able to make it “3 for 3” or will we see yet another feature winner in “the Valley” this weekend? Be sure to top off the holiday weekend at Ohio Valley Speedway this Saturday for more awesome winged warrior battling. You won’t want to miss out. Week after week, the field of sprints has been full and growing. The buzz throughout the racing community is increasing and the racing just keeps getting better. With a solid group of guys racing for position week after week, the talent within the organization is phenomenal. The veterans like Jim Stinson, Dave Dickson, Mark Imler, and Josh Davis are getting quite the challenge from former late model and modified wheelmen, Greg Mitchell, Andre Layfield and Aaron Higgins and a huge field of “young guns.” Nathan Skaggs, Kory Crabtree, Ryan Broughton, Chris Myers, Sam Ashworth and several others make up perhaps the most competitive portion of the field as each week they each show vast improvement. OVSCA is currently home to more than 20 drivers competing on a consistent basis and a variety of feature winners from week to week. Considering the differences among each of the upcoming tracks, OVSCA expects to see different guys up front and a variety of faces in victory lane within just four days. Grab your friends and hit the road, because OVSCA is on the move throughout the Mid Ohio Valley region for four days this holiday week! You won’t want to miss a single night of excitement as the fastest guys on dirt blast into action.
For fans and drivers looking for rooms and rig parking within the weekend racing region, Comfort Suites in Mineral Wells, has a reserved rate for “OVSCA.” Space is limited, so book your reservation by calling 304-489-9600 immediately.
