Port Royal – Port Royal Speedway will present the 2013 Living Legends Dream Race on Saturday, August 3 at 7:30 pm, honoring veteran sprint car driver Todd Shaffer and car owner Patty Beam with tens-of-thousands of dollars in purse money and contingency cash and prizes up for grabs.
The 30-lap Living Legends A Main itself will pay out over $30,000 in purse money alone for the second year in a row with a pair of 16-lap semi-features offering full payouts worth nearly $10,000 each.
In total, the night’s purse money alone eclipses $50,000 and with thousands of additional money pumped into the show via contingency prizes and cash, the total take on the night for sprint car drivers is already approaching $60,000.
Shaffer of Millerstown, now retired from driving, is a 94-time winner at Port Royal Speedway where he currently ranks third on the all-time oval win list.
Shaffer owns a total of five career Port Royal track titles having taken laurels in 1995, 1998, 2003, 2008 and in 2009.
Patty Beam of Gardners and her late husband Gary Beam teamed with Shaffer in the early 1990s to experience the majority of their success as owners during their decades-long careers.
Before Shaffer the Beams watched as stars like Joey Gravino, Maynard Yingst, Chuck Reinert, Scott Gessford, Larry Jackson and Barry Camp wheeled their machines.
The Living Legends Dream Race event will again see special pre-race activities held behind the grandstand with details to be released.
Time trials will set the starting lineups for the 16-lap twin semi-features that will each pay a minimum of $2,000 to win as well as the 30-lap Dream A Main that will pay a minimum of $10,000 to the winner.
Additional news and information about this prolific Port Royal event on August 3 will be releases in the coming days and weeks.
