ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/19/2012 – Lincoln was lining up the field for its third of three “410” sprint car heats when the rains came on Thursday night, forcing promoters to cancel the remainder of the Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator Sprint Car Spectacular for the benefit of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.

To try and save time with the storm approaching, Lincoln timed the “410” sprinters during warm-ups and inverted the top four from each of the seeded heat groups for the qualifiers. The “358” sprints drew for starting spots and had completed their qualifying events, with Mark Smith, Dale Hammaker, and Tim Wagaman picking up the wins.

But the final heat for the “410” sprints and the consolation event for the 28 “358” sprints were still to be run when the rains came.

Heats for the 22 “410” Sprints on hand were won by the Stevie Smith and Cory Haas before the heavy lightning was joined by the rain, washing out the remainder of the evening.

Track promoters will meet with Premier Autoworks to set a new date for the Sprint Car Spectacular, and rain checks from the event will be honored for the next three Lincoln shows, the next of which will be Pepsi Night featuring the “410” sprints, “358” sprints, and thundercars on Saturday, July 28th.

Lincoln will be dark this coming Saturday, as Williams Grove hosts the World of Outlaws in the second night of its annual Summer Nationals.
