ST. HELENA, Calif. (August 9, 2021) – After missing the top-ten by two positions during preliminary competition on Friday, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu rebounded big and solidified a top-five result on Saturday, finishing fifth, officially, during I-55 Raceway’s Ironman 55. Abreu started ninth on the 55-lap, $20,000-to-win main event grid and powered ahead to fifth with less than ten circuits remaining, battling by David Gravel and ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz to plant himself within the top-five.

Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Self Made Racing/Salty’s BBQ/Stadelhofer Construction/No. 24 sprint car, kicked-off the Ironman 55 finale with the ninth-fastest time during qualifying time trials, all before finishing third during his respective heat race; 34 drivers made the call with the Greatest Show On Dirt.

“The weekend kinda started out slow, but we made the proper adjustments and got the car where it needed to be. Anytime you can battle for a top-five, especially with that level of talent, is a great night,” Rico Abreu said, a former two-time Ironman 55 champion who now owns 24 top-five finishes in 2021. “Hats off to my entire team for all of their hard work to get us to this point. The biggest week of the season is upon us and we couldn’t be more excited to get started. We have a pretty solid notebook prepared for Knoxville, so we’ll put that to good use this week and hopefully get ourselves in the ‘A’ on Saturday night.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will begin their Knoxville Nationals campaign with preliminary action on Thursday, August 12. Jac Haudenschild, piloting his historic No. 22, will make his final Knoxville Nationals attempt on Thursday, as well. The “Wild Child” will work to add a coveted Knoxville Nationals A-Main start to his list of stats accomplished during his 2021 Farewell Tour, joining an A-Main start in the 37th running of the $175,000-to-win Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway; Jac finished 14th.

Saturday’s Knoxville Nationals A-Main will award $150,000-to-win and $10,000-to-start. In addition, $1,000 of lap money will be awarded for every lap led in the 50-lap finale bumping the total winning potential to $200,000.
