ST. HELENA, Calif. (April 11, 2022) – Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing have been busy over the last month, not only logging miles in California and across the Southwest, but the St. Helena, California, native has been full speed ahead with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, joining the nation’s best open wheelers at tracks throughout California and Missouri including Merced (Calif.) Speedway, Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway, Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, and Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri.
A competitive stretch to say the least, Abreu, pilot of the Abreu Vineyards, Rowdy Energy, Curb Records, Stadelhofer Construction, Wiser Agency, Tony Toste Construction, Lucas Oil Products, ShopRico.com, Salty’s BBQ, No. 24 sprint car, highlighted the last four races with a pair of top-ten outcomes including a ninth-place score at Merced Speedway on March 18. Abreu advanced two spots in the Friday night program, and at the time, it bumped his top-ten tally to four.
In his most recent outing with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, Abreu finished seventh, battling ahead five spots in the $15,000-to-win Jason Johnson Classic at Lake Ozark Speedway. In a hurry from the start, Abreu made all of his progress prior to halfway, settling into eighth before gaining a final position on the final lap at race leader Brady Bacon’s misfortune. Abreu’s speed also allowed the Californian to earn the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most feature positions.
In what could have been the top result of his recent swing, Abreu was battling for a podium spot at Bakersfield Speedway when disaster struck on lap nine sending the Rowdy Energy No. 24 to the back of the field. Contact between a lapped car and race leader Sheldon Haudenschild created a chain reaction involving David Gravel and Abreu. Abreu recovered to finish 17th, but all potential was cut short.
“It’s been a wild stretch for our team and I’m proud of everyone involved. It’s not easy logging the miles that we do, but I have a great group of guys and the best partners in the world. Great things are ahead for this team and I’m excited to continue down this path,” Abreu said. “We get to go back to one of my favorite tracks in the world this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited.”
ON DECK:
Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2022 campaign with another doubleheader in the Show-Me State, set to invade Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16. A warm-up for the annual 55-lap/$20,000-to-win Ironman 55, the two-day visit to greater St. Louis will feature two, full programs and will cap all World of Outlaws action in the Show-Me State until the Series returns for the aforementioned Ironman in early August.
