ST. HELENA, Calif. (October 7, 2019) – Rico Abreu’s visit to Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Friday and Saturday, October 4 & 5, ended perfectly, not only earning back-to-back victories during Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) competition, but collecting a pair of $2,000 top prizes in the process. For Abreu, the pair of victories increased his season win count to eight, now with three during MOWA action.
Earning his first win of the weekend in dominating fashion, Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Golden State Restaurant Group/Southern Pacific Farms/Priority Aviation/Self Made Racing/Dancer Logistics/No. 24 sprint car, lapped most of the feature field on Friday, catapulting right to the top after starting second on the grid. Although forced to do things on a more challenging route on Saturday, the win was still convincing, ultimately driving by race leader, as well as fellow California-native, Buddy Kofoid, with ten circuits remaining.
“It was a great weekend for our team. We enjoy racing with MOWA so it worked out perfectly that we got to race twice before heading back to California,” Rico Abreu said, who earned a MOWA victory at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois, earlier this season. “Hats off to this team. We’ve been working our butts off the last few weeks, but things are coming together.”
Driving for Keith Kunz Motorsports, Rico Abreu also participated in the POWRi Midget Series programs at Jacksonville Speedway during the recent weekend, ending his two-day stint with a pair of runner-up finishes.
Up next on the schedule, Rico Abreu will return to California and prepare for the 34th running of the Cotton Classic at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford. Abreu is the defending Sprint Car Challenge Tour winner of the prestigious California program, earning a $2,500 payday in the process. In hopes of defending his Cotton Classic crown, Abreu will enter the King of the West-NARC (410) portion of Saturday’s program.
Adding depth to Abreu’s winged stable, National Sprint Car Hall of Famer and Wooster, Ohio-native, Jac Haudenschild, will enter the Sprint Car Challenge Tour (360) portion of the Cotton Classic for Rico Abreu Racing.
