SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL TOUR “MID-ATLANTIC STATES CLASSIC” COMING TO POTOMAC & WINCHESTER JUNE 20-21 FOR $2500 TO-WIN EACH NIGHT

(Pulaski, PA)…Ever since the announcement was made on November 2 that RUSH would sanction weekly Crate Late Model action at Potomac and Winchester Speedways in 2014, there’s been a large outpouring of support, interest, and excitement. RUSH Series Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone are now thrilled to announce that the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Touring Series will make a visit at each speedway on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21!
The “Mid-Atlantic States Classic” will be one of the season’s biggest weekends with $2,500 to-win, $250 to-start each night! It’ll kick off on Friday night (June 20) at Potomac Speedway located in Mechanicsville, Maryland followed by Saturday night’s (June 21) appearance at Winchester Speedway located in Winchester, Virginia.
“These will be exciting events for our Series,” acknowledged Emig. “Several racers from the Mid-Atlantic participated in our Sweeney Touring Series this past season so it’ll be nice for them to have two events closer to home. Our racers always enjoy going to new venues and now these will not only be new venues, but big events! The original discussion was $2,500 to-win on Friday night and $2,000 to-win on Saturday night, but track owner Greg Gunter decided to make both $2,500 to-win due to the excellent response they’ve been receiving since the announcement was made!”
The Crate Late Models were added to each track’s program in 2013, but will be under RUSH weekly-sanctioning in 2014 meaning all member racers will be part of the Sweeney Weekly Series Championship, Pace Performance Summer Chase, and those eligible for the “Futures Cup”. Member racers will also have $100,000 in excess participant accident coverage over and above driver’s own health insurance and/or track’s insurance policy.
This past season Hagerstown Speedway hosted the first ever Sweeney RUSH Tour events in the state of Maryland with $2,500 and $2,000 to-win shows won by Rick Singleton and eventual champion Mike Pegher, Jr. The Potomac and Winchester events will mark the richest Crate Late Model events ever held at each speedway with the Winchester show being the first ever Sweeney RUSH Tour event ever held in the state of Virginia!

Potomac Speedway is a high-banked 3/8-mile dirt track located on Route 234 at27963 Budds Creek Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659. The track first opened in 1973. Gunter has promoter the speedway, which is located about an hour south of Washington D.C and Baltimore, since 2009. Winchester Speedway is also a high-banked 3/8-mile dirt track located just off Route 50 at 950 Airport Road Winchester, VA 22604. The track first opened in 1936 under the name of Airport Speedway. It was purchased in 2009 by Gunter. The track has been home to the Winchester 200, a major Super Late Model event, since 1963! The track hosts major events for the World of Outlaw Late Models, ARDC Midgets, URC Sprints, and the Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek.
