BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 9, 2019) – The chase for the 2019 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship remains close, but the fact is, Donny Schatz remains in command, now with a six point lead over season-long title contender, Brad Sweet.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car, recently concluded a three-race swing through Oregon and Washington, ending the four-day campaign with three consecutive top-ten appearances, two of which inside the top five. Perhaps Schatz’ most impressive performance of the weekend occurred during Silver Dollar Speedway’s Gold Cup Race of Champions finale on Saturday, September 7.
Forced to work his way out of the evening’s B-Main, all before nearly getting lapped during the first part of the main event, the ten-time and defending World of Outlaws champion eventually persevered in a big way and rallied to finish eighth during the Gold Cup feature, officially solidifying the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions; 24th to eighth in 40 laps.
Donny Schatz opened his Silver Dollar Speedway visit with a fifth place outcome during the Gold Cup preliminary on Friday, September 6. Schatz started third on the grid and battled well within the top-five the entire 30-lap distance.
Adding more depth to his 2019 season statistics, the Fargo, North Dakota-native activated his long, three-race stretch by finishing fourth during a midweek visit to Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon, on Wednesday, September 4. Schatz finished second during his respective heat race.
“This team never gives up and I’m fortunate enough to be a part of that. No matter how deep the hole is, they are always looking up and working for ways to get out,” Donny Schatz said, who owns eight World of Outlaws victories in 2019. “We have to be able to remain consistent if we want to win a championship. Having the ability to advance from 24th to eighth is a true testament to that.”
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their quest toward the 2019 World of Outlaws championship with another three-race schedule over four days, this time visiting Placerville Speedway on Wednesday, September 11, Stockton Dirt Track on Friday, September 13, and finally, the very scenic Calistoga Speedway on Saturday, September 14.
