2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: 8th | 264 points [32 points behind championship leader, Logan Schuchart]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (February 8, 2021) – It was a long week in the Sunshine State for ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, but the Fargo, North Dakota-native capitalized on the opportunity to compete and secured three podium finishes in a combined five All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws starts, scoring a victory in the process during All Star action at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, February 2.

The victory, earning $6,000 in the process, was accomplished from the second row, taking the lead from Justin Peck on lap 15 before withstanding late-race charges by Ian and Kerry Madsen, respectively. The win was Schatz’ second of the 2021 season, as well as his second on the year against the traveling All Stars, etching his first mark in the win column – an $8,000 accomplishment – during action at Screven Motor Speedway on January 29.

“I haven’t been to East Bay since 1993 or 1994. This track is really neat, but it’s also very tricky. You have to respect the place,” Donny Schatz said. “The surface can have some slick spots, as well as some wet sports. The dynamic of the track changes so much. I went wherever I had to go.”

Four nights of DIRTcar Nationals competition, two against the All Stars on February 3-4, and two against the Greatest Show On Dirt on February 5 and 7, equaled three top-ten results for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, kicking-off their extended weekend at Volusia Speedway Park with runner-up and seventh-place finishes against the All Stars. The runner-up result was nearly a victory for Schatz, but a big move by Logan Schuchart with two circuits remaining forced the ten-time Outlaws champ to settle with one spot lower on the podium. Schatz led laps 13-22, getting by Brad Sweet to take command initially before surrendering the top spot.

Knocked down to three events due to weather interference on Saturday, Schatz’ first WoO starts of the season were complete with success, as well as heartache, first earning a third-place result to ignite the season, officially, on Friday, February 5. The driver of the Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car was forced to do things the hard way, eventually climbing 15 spots to secure his place on the podium, as well as the evening’s Hard Charger Award.

Donny Schatz was well on his way to a victory on Sunday night at Volusia when disaster struck, forcing the familiar No. 15 entry to go pitside with only two circuits remaining.

A heat race runner-up finish and a dash win allowed Schatz to start the DIRTcar Nationals sprint car finale from the pole and that is exactly where he stayed for 28 circuits, all before internal issues forced Schatz to go to the work area. The team fixed the issue quickly and returned, but time was short; Schatz finished 15th.

A trip through Georgia and Alabama stands ahead for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing. The World of Outlaws schedule will take the Greatest Show On Dirt to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia, on Friday, February 12, followed by a stop at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama, on Saturday, February 13. Schatz will enter the pair eighth in the current championship standings, trailing championship leader, Logan Schuchart, by 32 markers.
