SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Selinsgrove Speedway will open the 2014 season, weather permitting, with an afternoon show starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, featuring the 410 sprint cars in the track’s 52nd consecutive opener. Track gates will open at 12 p.m.
The 410 sprint car drivers will compete in a 25-lap main event paying $4,000 to win and $300 to start out of a purse totaling more than $16,500. Heat races, with starting lineups being determined by luck-of-the-draw, and a B-main will be the qualifying format for the first open wheel event of the season.
The 410 sprint cars are also scheduled to return to Selinsgrove Speedway on May 25 for the Ray Tilley Classic, July 6 for the Jan Opperman Memorial PA Speedweek Finale, and Sept. 13 for the Jim Nace Memorial 32nd Annual National Open.
For the second year in a row, the 44-lap National Open for 410 sprint cars will pay $12,000 to win.
Last year’s 410 sprint car races at the track were won by Greg Hodnett of York (season opener) Brent Marks of Myerstown (Tilley Classic), Pat Cannon of Etters (National Open), and Logan Schuchart of Hanover and Rick Lafferty of Pennington, N.J. (twin 20’s).
The annual Selinsgrove Speedway Motorsports Show at the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf is running now through this Friday, March 21. Season reserved seat tickets will be available to purchase at the mall in the evenings. The season kickoff ceremony will be in the mall’s center court this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Selinsgrove Speedway officials will conduct tech inspections at the track this Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. There will be no track time available.
Following tech inspections, Selinsgrove Raceway Park will hold an open practice session on the one-fifth mile track from 2-5 p.m.
Raceway Park will host the Maxxis Mid-Atlantic Dirt Series events for go karts on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, featuring a $10,000-to-win karting event.
