Seven Lead Changes Highlight Tim Kaeding’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Victory at Kokomo Speedway
Californian earns fifth victory of the season, takes Indiana championship

KOKOMO, Ind. – June 5, 2013 – Four different drivers shared the lead seven times in Wednesday night’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series 40-lap feature at Kokomo Speedway before Tim Kaeding finally edged Shane Stewart to win his fifth race of the season.

For Kaeding, of San Jose, Calif., it wasn’t the third time that was the charm, but the fourth at the quarter-mile bullring. Kaeding led the opening circuit of the 40-lap A-main, Jason Sides led the second lap, Kaeding went back in front on lap three, Shane Stewart then took over for the next eight laps before Kaeding again moved to the point after 13 laps and led another six before turning it over to Kyle Larson.

Larson started to take control, but then he found trouble navigating through traffic and made contact with a car he was trying to lap, dropping him back through the field and again moving Kaeding to the front on Lap 33. From that point to the checkered flag Kaeding was able to maintain the lead, although Stewart closed quickly and cut the margin of victory to only .18 seconds.

Greg Wilson charged from 14th to finish third with Cody Darrah and points leader Daryn Pittman rounding out the top five. Kaeding also earned the AllenBooth.com Indiana State Championship, which was based on the most combined points earned in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series competition at Tri-State Speedway, Lawrenceburg Speedway and Kokomo Speedway.

“This thing started shaking with five or six laps go and it was actually about when Kyle crashed with the lapped car, and it was one of those things where it’s like ‘please don’t pop,'” said Kaeding, driver of the Roth Enterprises KPC. “We’re not running for points so we’re just here to get wins and try to piss everybody off.”

Stewart nearly pulled off the win with a final lap surge to the checkered flag.

“I led for a while and of course not having radios and rear view mirrors and all that stuff you never know how close they are to you and I went to the bottom to try to get around some lapped cars and Tim snuck by me,” said Stewart, of Bixby, Okla. “The double file restarts can help you or hurt you with these guys, one helped me and a couple hurt me. I had one shot at it, I had a really good restart and got up against the wall on the back straight away and Larson got back around me.”

Wilson kept the pressure mounting after a quick run to the front from deep in the field.

“We got a couple of good restarts and got by four or five cars, twice,” said Wilson, of Benton Ridge, Ohio. “It’s good to run good against these guys. These guys are the best in the country and I’m just from a little farm town and all I’ve ever wanted to do is race sprint cars and I’ve been blessed to do that.”

The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series is back in action on Friday night at 34 Raceway before heading to Lakeside Speedway Saturday and rounding out the weekend at I-80 on Sunday.
