Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP to Operate Under NDRL Umbrella in 2014!
Boyertown, PA (February 7, 2014) The National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) will continue its expansion in 2014.The NDRL, a national Super Late Model Series founded by Arizona businessman John Kennedy in 2013, has grown steadily during the last year. Now, the NDRL has formed an agreement with Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP organizer Brett Deyo of BD Motorsports Media LLC to break into the Northeast big-block/small-block Modified racing this season.
For ’14, the newly formed Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP will operate under the NDRL umbrella and Modified racers will be the benefactors. As part of the agreement, the NDRL Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP sees a mammoth $6,000 point fund increase over the originally released year-end total announced in December. A $500 perfect attendance drawing (split into a pair of $250 prizes) has also been added for the penultimate race on the series in August in addition to a “post-season” $2,000 incentive in October. This is a total of $8,500 funneled into the first-year series!
“This is obviously huge news for dirt Modified racers planning to follow our 2014 Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP,” Deyo said of the announcement. “John (Kennedy) has done so many good things for Late Model racing from Arizona to the East Coast. We’re proud to have his support of our new series and I think our race teams will be very impressed with his contributions to our point fund.”
Plans for the Short Track Super Series were finalized in December. The series kicks off at Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway on Sunday, March 23 with the ‘Hard Clay Open’ presented by United Pump & Tank, East Coast Speed/ECS Auto and West Point Golf. Drivers will apply the best four of their first five finishes at OCFS, Thunder Mountain (N.Y.) Speedway May 20, I-88 (N.Y.) Speedway July 23, Accord (N.Y.) Speedway Aug. 5 and Penn Can (Pa.) Speedway Aug. 12 leading into the championship event Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals 7 presented by Olum’s at I-88 Speedway Oct. 10-11.
The series will be contested exactly as had been announced. There will be no changes in scheduling, rules, purses, staff, officials, etc. Deyo retains control and ownership of the series under the NDRL affiliation. “John has the resources and national connections to bring our program to another level,” Deyo said. “Operating under the umbrella of NDRL sets us up for continued growth in the future. Kennedy, a native of western New York, now resides in the Phoenix, Ariz., area, where he operates Kennedy Partners, a company specializing in a variety of capital improvement construction projects. In early ’13, he announced the formation of the NDRL, contested as a five-race, high-paying mini-series of Super Late Model events.
Since the initial announcement, Kennedy’s involvement on the promotional side of the sport has increased exponentially. He already completed a nine-race swing in January that included six race dates at Tuscon (Ariz.) International Speedway and three events at El Paso (Texas) Speedway Park.
The ’14 ‘Kings of Dirt’ NDRL Super Late Model Series is comprised of 30 dates at tracks in 11 different states beginning Feb. 27-28 at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Additionally, Kennedy has announced the formation of the NDRL Northeast regional series for Super Late Models and B-Modifieds with events in Pennsylvania and Maryland. The first NDRL Northeast event takes place March 29 with the ‘Chiller Thriller’ at Mercer (Pa.) Raceway Park.
In March ’13, Kennedy and the NDRL assumed weekly operations of McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa. Kennedy is also a Super Late Model team owner, fielding cars for New York’s Tim Fuller and Pennsylvania’s Max Blair under the Kennedy Motorsports banner.
Joining forces with the Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP opens new doors for NDRL.
“This partnership is ideal to expand our brand to race fans and competitors in the Northeast,” Kennedy said. “For the NDRL, it is a unique avenue to reach a whole different sector of the racing community. I like what Brett has put together here. He’s got a manageable schedule of big-paying races for Modified racers. We’re looking forward to having the NDRL attached to the series.”
The NDRL relationship with the Short Track Super Series added $500 to each of the top-10 positions in the point fund. Additionally, the 11th- and 12th-place drivers will now receive payment. The revised NDRL Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP point fund is as follows: first: $5,500; second: $3,722.22 (includes memorial bonus for ‘Deek’ Decker); third: $3,000; fourth: $2,000; fifth: $1,500; sixth $1,450; seventh: $1,350; eighth: $1,300; ninth: $1,250; 10th: $1,200; 11th: $500; and 12th: $500.
All drivers who enter every event but miss the top-12 finishing positions in the final point standings will receive $250 cash.
Two drivers with perfect attendance will be rewarded with a pair of $250 cash prizes via random drawings at the ‘Hot Summer Night’ event Aug. 12 at Penn Can. The drawing will take place at the pre-race drivers’ meeting.
The point fund will be distributed on-site at the I-88 Short Track SuperNationals event Oct. 11. Drivers must be present to receive cash awards.
An additional $2,000 will be distributed at Penn Can Speedway on Oct. 17 at a “bonus” series event. The drivers who finish inside the top-10 in the final NDRL Short Track Super Series Fueled by VP will each receive $200 cash when they return to compete in the 15th annual ‘King of the Can’ at Penn Can Speedway Oct. 17. The cash will be handed out at sign-in for the ‘King of the Can’ spectacular.

Also, a Short Track Super Series “Fan Plan” point fund raffle is underway. Tickets are on sale now at $50 each. Only 100 tickets will be sold. Once the 100 tickets have been sold, there will be two drawings, held in public at a NDRL Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP event, for a pair of $1,250 cash prizes.
