BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 28, 2019) – Recent NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee, Tony Stewart, put his open wheel team to the test over Memorial Day weekend, as the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion entered four United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Speedweek events in four days, trekking to three different states in the process.
Despite the weekend getting activated on a weak note, finishing 12th and 21st, respectively, during starts at Greenville (Ala.) Speedway and Riverside (Ark.) International Speedway on Friday and Saturday, May 24 & 25, it was Stewart’s visit to Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark., that really launched his USCS Speedweek success.
The pilot of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car captured his first of two weekend victories during his visit to Old No. 1, outdueling Pennsylvania’s Mark Smith in the final circuits to clinch the very top spot on the podium. In fact, Stewart was forced to take evasive action in the final corner, dodging Mark Smith’s last-ditch effort slide job through turn four before winning a drag race back to the checkers.
Continuing his winning trend, Tony Stewart capped his four-race trek through the south with a victory at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., on Monday, May 27. The pair of victories bumped Stewart’s overall win count to seven thus far in 2019, four of those during United Sprint Car Series competition.
Nearly igniting his win steak one night prior, Stewart was battling for a podium spot during action at Riverside on Saturday when contact was made with an inside barrier, ultimately forcing Smoke to retire early from main event competition. Stewart climbed from 17th to fourth before making contact.
“That was a lot of fun. It certainly wasn’t easy, but this is what we live for,” Tony Stewart said. “I have a great group of guys who work very, very hard, even through all of the long nights and warm weather. Having the opportunity to stand in victory lane twice in one weekend is pretty special. I certainly wouldn’t be in this position without my team. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Tony Stewart’s plans for the upcoming weekend remain uncertain. Fans are encouraged to stay alert via social media for further updates.
