Stambaugh and Matus Motorsports show speed during Sprint Car World Championship

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

ELIDA, Ohio (April 30, 2018) – Making a late-week decision to drive for Pennsylvania-based Matus Motorsports, “Mad Max” Stambaugh made the trip to Mansfield (Ohio) Motor Speedway for the inaugural Sprint Car World Championship on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, working for the opportunity to compete for $100,000 during the weekend’s 50-lap finale.

Facing-off against 70-plus entries signed-in for action, Stambaugh nearly attained his goal, charging forward from fifth to finish second during his preliminary heat race to qualify for one of the two preliminary features that were conducted on Friday evening. Earning the outside-pole position by way of feature redraw, Stambaugh battled for a podium spot during the first 19 circuits of his preliminary bout, all before losing a tire on lap 20 of 30. The Elida, Ohio, native would not finish and was scored 17th at the end of 30 laps.

Stambaugh would get a second chance to qualify for the $100,000-to-win finale on Saturday, but would not succeed, ultimately ending his Sprint Car World Championship campaign during B-main competition.

“I just want to thank Brent and Brandon Matus for the opportunity. I hurt one of my engines at Attica Raceway Park last weekend, so my only shot at Mansfield was to find someone interested in allowing me to drive for them. Luckily, it worked out,” Stambaugh stated, a recent top-five finisher during All Star Circuit of Champions competition. “I had a great experience. We were well on our way to an A-main starting spot. I think if our tire didn’t blow on Friday, we were going to be right there. At least I know my potential. We’ll try again next time.”

Max Stambaugh’s upcoming schedule is uncertain. Any updates will be posted in the near-future. If all goes according to plan, “Mad Max” will join the All Star Circuit of Champions at Lernerville Speedway and Sharon Speedway on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, respectively.
