FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Woodhull, NY)…After a weekend off, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series is prepared to return to action this Saturday evening (September 27) in a first ever visit to New York’s Woodhull Raceway. The event is part of the track’s two-day fifth annual “Bullring Challenge,” which will see RUSH featured on the Saturday portion of the event with action getting underway early at 5:30 p.m.
After Chad McClellan and Rick Singleton won the Series’ first six Tour events, an amazing seven different winners have graced victory lane in the preceding seven events! There have also been over 30 cars in action in five of the last six Sweeney Tour events including the last four straight. The average car count in the last six shows has been over 34 and over 36 in the last four.
One of those different winners is current point leader Ryan Montgomery, who surprised no one by winning at Pittsburgh on July 12, while another is runner-up John Waters, who won the Humberstone July 20 event. Outside of a 15th at Pittsburgh and a 12th at Sharon, Waters has been strong in the past seven events with five top five finishes outgaining Montgomery in points on those nights.
Heading into Saturday’s $1,500 to-win event, Montgomery’s lead has been cut to 48 points. Woodhull is a track that Waters has had success at in his career campaigning “360” Late Models/Super Stocks, and is one of the Whitesville, New York driver’s favorites, while the 17-year-old Montgomery of Fairmont, West Virginia has yet to race on the track’s high banks.
After starting off hot and leading the early point standings with two wins in the first six races, Stoystown, Pa’s Chad McClellan has struggled of late with just one top five finish in the past seven events. McClellan has a nine-point advantage on another Pennsylvania driver in Jason Rider, who has never competed at Woodhull before either. Ohio racer Eric Wilson finds himself five points behind Rider in the fifth spot.
Completing the current top 15 points paying positions with just three events remaining are Cody Dawson, W.L. Stile, Singleton, Andrew Wylie, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Ralph Morgan, Jr., Robby Marhefka, Josh Holtgraver, Russell Baird, Jr., and Max Blair. New York drivers Bryce Davis and McKean County Raceway Champion Chad Ruhlman will have an opportunity to move into the top 15 on Saturday.
Woodhull has had only a few Crate Late Model races in the storied history of the track. The most recent was on Saturday, August 9 when Brian Knowles topped a 20-car field in an $800 to-win event run under RUSH rules.
“We are definitely looking forward to Saturday,” expressed RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Woodhull is a racey track and the high banks add to the excitement. It’ll be a new venue for some of our racers and there’s a good chance we may see another new winner with some of the local New York racers having more experience at the track. Saturday’s show also gives us a great opportunity to expose our Series and the competitiveness of Crate Late Model racing to a new audience so we have to thank track owner Ted White for giving us the ability to be part of this weekend’s event.”
The K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash will be run paying $100 K&N certificate to win, $50 K&N certificate for second with $25 cash for third and fourth place. Rick Singleton leads the K&N Dash Championship. If enough cars are present, a non-qualifier event will be run. Zack Carley is the current point leader.
Precise Racing Products will award a $100 gift card for the “Pedal Down” Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature. The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any The Brake Man purchase.
