SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Selinsgrove Speedway will host the Three State Flyers Late Model Series for the first time in series history at 7 p.m. this Saturday, May 3. The super late models will be joined by the 358-360 sprint cars on the two-division racing card sponsored by Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.

The 35-lap super late model A-Main will pay $3,000 to win and $300 to start out of the $14,345 purse. Time trials, heat races, and a B-main will be the qualifying format for the division’s fourth race of the season at the Snyder County half-mile oval.

The 2014 11-race Three State Flyers series will kick off this Friday at the Bedford Speedway before coming to Selinsgrove for Race #2 on Saturday. Mark Pettyjohn of Milton, Del., won last year’s series opener at the Winchester Speedway and went on to clinch the 2013 title over Jason Covert of York Haven, who is a former three-time Three State Flyers champion.

Covert is expected to be in the field for this Saturday’s race at Selinsgrove and has one win already this season at the Potomac Speedway in Maryland. The win on April 4 was Covert’s first career at Potomac and first for his new car owners Pete Cameron and Roland Mann. Covert, who has more than 100 career victories, owns a single late model win at Selinsgrove from 2006.

In late model racing this season at Selinsgrove, three races have produced three different winners. All-time win leader and defending champion Jeff Rine of Danville scored the season opener on April 12. Veteran racers Steve Campbell of Danville and Jim Yoder of Selinsgrove took checkered flags on April 19 and April 26, respectively.

The 360 sprint car racing era was ushered in during the month of April with three different winners in as many races. TJ Stutts of Liverpool (April 12); Mark Smith of Sunbury (April 19); and most recently Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., (April 26) have taken wins in 360 sprint car racing action at the track. This Saturday the 358-360 sprint cars will compete in a 25-lap feature paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start.

An open practice session will be held on the half-mile track this Wednesday, April 30, from 6:30-9 p.m. General admission for the practice night is free; the entry fee per race car is $100.

Selinsgrove Raceway Park will present a complete program of go kart and micro sprint car racing at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2.
