FOREST, Ohio (October 31, 2022) – It was a long haul to the Grand Canyon State for Pleasant Hill, Ohio’s Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports, but the decision to venture west and join USAC for the annual Western World Championships at Cocopah Speedway certainly paid off, capping their Halloween weekend with not only a pair of respectable finishes, but scoring a podium run in the process. For Westfall, the podium run – a third-place finish on Friday, October 28 – was his best USAC National Sprint Cars result in a decade, earning his last podium outcome at Eldora Speedway in April 2012.
Overall, Westfall’s Friday night performance was almost perfect, kicking things off with the eighth-fastest qualifying time, racing on to finish third in his respective heat race. The six-time winner in 2022, and 2021 BOSS Series champion, went on to start from the pole.
The following evening in the $10,000-to-win Western World Championships finale, Westfall finished 11th, the product of an impressive rally from 22nd on the grid. The 11-position charge was good enough to secure a third-place finish in the weekend’s passing master standings. Westfall also earned the weekend’s GSP Quality Driving Performance contingency award.

Hopefully we can cap this West Coast visit on another high note.”

Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2022 campaign with a USAC National Sprint Cars tripleheader at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, California, on Thursday through Saturday, November 3-5. Dubbed the Oval Nationals, the three-day spectacle will conclude with a $20,000-to-win main event on Saturday. The event will also conclude the 2022 USAC National Sprint Cars schedule.
